Fringe and prospect fights that could have happened circa 1988

    In 1988 and thereabouts you had some young fringe fighters and prospects.. Some of them lingered on a bit longer and others ended their careers early. Some of them went on to being okay while some faded into obscurity. Among the names you had there was:

    1. Francesco Damiani

    2. Gary Mason

    3. Horace Notice

    4. Willie Dewitt

    5. Orlin Norris

    6. Wesley Watson

    7. Adam Fogerty

    8. Alex Stewart

    Possibly a few others but that's all I can name. What do you think about some of these guys and possible matches among them?

    I believe Damiani, Norris and Mason were the best from this list.

    Damiani had good punch and skills and his resume was good enough to get a shot at undisputed title held by Tyson. Most impressive wins were destruction of Eddie Gregg and Johnny DoPlooy as well as convinsing win over Tyrell Biggs (Biggs stopped on cuts, Damiani won every round of the fight).

    Norris till the Cooper fight was NABF champion with few very good wins.

    Mason had fantastic record (though mostly padded, but some good names like Biggs).

    Stewart has fought many big names (Holyfield 1,2, Tyson, Moorer, Foreman) and lost all, but was competitive in most of them

    I'd rank Damiani as the best on this list followed closely by Mason and Norris.

    Fogerty was the worst IMO

    Yeah I'd have to agree with Damiani being the best, but probably only by a narrow margin. I also could have added Ruddock to that list given the time frame was 1988 and he wasn't quite top rate yet.
