Odds on O'Reilly to beat the Russian are 1/4 which seem very short

Thankfully Turkey already have two (69 & 75) qualified through APB. Hopefully both ourselves and the Turks qualify a few through the Worlds so the chance of a Joe Ward happening again is minimised.

very short odds on o'reilly almost worth a small punt on the Russian if I wasn't so patriotic:D

true and we have 49kg and 56kg warped up. but it only takes one terrible decision

Just looking at the APB and WSB, Europe doing ok

    52kg - 1 qualified (Russia)

60kg - 1 qualified (Azerbaijan) - with Russia boxing Uzbekistan for another spot

    64kg - 1 qualified (Russia) - with Germany/Lithuania boxing Argentina/Algeria for another spot

69 kg - 2 qualified (Russia & Turkey) - Then 0-1 of (Russia/Lithuania/Hungary) will qualify depending on results with Kenya

75kg - 3 qualified (Turkey, Russia, and one of France/Ukraine/Romania)

    81kg - 2 qualified (Italy and Bulgaria/France)

91kg - 1 qualified (Russia) - with Italy boxing Kazakhstan for another place

+91kg - 3 qualified (Croatia, Germany, and one of Azerbaijan/Romania)

That jumble all bodes especially well for:
Michael O'Reilly (although he could well qualify directly from the WCs) and
Adam Nolan (assuming Europe qualify 3 at the weight through WSB/APB).

A good WCs for Europe and suddenly Gardiner has a decent chance in the qualifiers

Field being thinned out for Joe Ward too (Not that he needs it when he's on top of his game)

true:good the field should be thinned out, Ward would have already qualified if he wasn't lazy and out of shape too

its more than annoying its a complete waste of world class talent

he was beating the life out of that french guy until he gassed

i mean eating pub grub and drinking pints weeks before the biggest fight of your life?:-(

his funding should be cut completely since he already gets paid by the apb, give it to the lads that will actually work and aren't receiving funding like McComb and Irvine. If his funding was getting taken away he wouldnt be long about working hard

I think this is were there should be more funding for the ams. I dont know what each of the high preformance squad get but they deserve every penny of it. The medals they win time and time again is something else. Saying that to keep the younger guys just shy of the High Preformance squad a chance i think there should be more funding for the young lads who are showing the talent in the under age boxing. A little yearly fund and if they put the hard work in they will be rewarded as they go on. A type of bonus structure would be brilliant for the lads bring home medals a bonus payment and so on. Got to give these lads a reason to stay am longer. I look at this team Paddy Barnes will go pro sooner or later. Michael Conlon too will go pro after Rio.

thing is leighton if this was 10 years ago them young lads would already be receiving funding

however ireland has came on so much in amatuer boxing that we now have so many world class amatuers theres not enough funding to give them all some. The governement wont increase funding anymore imo no matter how much success is had, shame when show jumping receives ridiculous levels of funding and win nothing!

surely that horsey crowd could pay there own way anyway without drain the cuffers of irish sport
