was a close fight tought the russian edged it, age made a difference imo the russian is 5 years olf than him
yup he didnt use his reach at all, he should have been ultra defensive from the start and picked him off with counter punches his reach and height advantage were insane. He should have took a leaf out of Luke Campbells book and sat back being ultra defensive and picked him off with the jab If Irvine was Anthony Fowler right now he would be crying robbery and his twitter would be going mental
It was a good fight a split decision defeat Russian lad just did the minimun after he won the first round handy. Some judges would of had Irvine winning but the lad done himself proud no matter what.
ya the 2nd round could have easily gone irvines way, tbh the fight could have gone either way but id have liked to have seen him use his natural advantages to better effect
he won the 2nd clear... 3rd could have went either way... i thought the cleaner shots were landed by the russian...shame really the fite was there to be won:good
Oh I understand that it should of been done earlier. The goverment make a **** load of money out of the horses the breading in Ireland pays more and more and more so out of the breading alone it could fund the horse show jumping and racing for years and years to come. That money should be pumped into the Irish lads needing the grants more so. I think out the current crop there will be some moving on after Rio. Darren O Neill , Adam Nolan , Conlan and Barnes will all go after it no matter what. Question marks on Joe Ward for me if he goes pro. So there is 5 lads on contracts that in all likely will come to a end and either turn pro or will be over taken by the younger lads in my opinion.
At 19 and his first major final he will learn a lot more from this going forward to Rio. Next final he is he will more than likely box and use his natural advantages.
ya i dont think ward has the dedication to go pro, heck he doesnt have the dedication to do amatuers to his full potential either but ya i can also see doj moving on too, will be a new crew in and i think the new crew could be the best yet:good
Agree totally i had the russian landing the more telling blows, The russian used his height advantage (or lack therof) by bending lower, making it hard for irvine to land any clean blows A counter punching Irvine may have been a better option but he is only 19 and showed good heart because he was hurt a few times during that bout, esp at the start of the second when the russian lost his footing but Irvine to his credit bit down and kept trying,Will aswell as skill,a great prospect,
yup id say he will take the loss well, id say he knows he could have boxed smarter at least his not crying about it like Anthony 'i was robbed' Folwer
