People who name a recent fighter, probably don't understand toughness!

Muhammad Ali is the toughest fighter of all time. He took george foreman's best shots and earnie shavers bombs and was still standing. Ali also let george chuvalo hit him multiple times to the body and shook it off like it was nothing.

I saw an exhibition of modern toughness last night. Christian Rebrasse against Callum Smith, Provodnikov v Mathysse was quite startling too.

    Back in time Joe Grimm.

Jim Jeffries deserves a mention too.

In his prime, he could give and take severe punishment. Fitzsimmons broke his nose and cut both his eyes, only to be knocked out in the eighth.

Sharkey, Corbett, Burns, Johnson, and others called him the greatest. Dempsey said he would've been beaten by him. Langford refused to fight him.

Interesting, basically no concensus, I would have thought there'd be some very notable example everyone would agree on, or at least a few instances like that around which votes would cluster.

    Damn right!

If anyone doesn't appreciate how tough Saad was, they weren't there at the time.

In simple terms, the reason he was stopped so many times so late in his career was because he was so tough and took such punishment in his prime. Sometimes the numbers don't tell the real story...

Joe Gans , already past his best and suffering from some degree of the tuberculosis that would eventually kill him fought a younger Battling Nelson under a desert sun and terrible catch weight conditions .. he inflicted brutal punishment and survived horrendous multiple fouls from the racist Dame to finally prevail in the 42nd round .. that's pretty damn tough to me ..
