Intrested what people think of the way the british title is now being over looked for theese international paper belts like the WBC international IBF Youth etc etc , the whole Callum Smith and Rocky Fielding situation in the SMW division is a mockery of a very prestigious belt the way Hearn is trying to keep them apart and protect their 0 , tbh i think hearns making a mockery of the bbboc in that particular case
I agree with you. Theirs a lot of fighters with world rankings who haven't beaten a domestic contender or won a domestic title. Its shocking.
Fully agree. Groves, Froch, Degale and now Murray are all ahead of these two, yet Smith can be WBC no.1 even though a British title fight is too risky.
Personally before any sniff at a World belt a british fighter imo should have to win British Commonwealth and European titles
I agree with all, there used to be a sense of burning ambition to not only win a British title, but to win one outright and keep it. Lord Lonsdale must be turning in his grave..
i agree to a certain extent about winning titles like the british/commonwealth/euro etc but at the end of the day if you are good enough then why should you not be able to challenge for a world title? look at lomachenko and rigondeux, they both won world titles very early in their careers and might have been blocked (especially rigondeux) if they had shown to be so far in fron of the world champions at their weights. i personally do miss the british/commonwealth/euro route then going on to fight for a world title but on the flip side a fighter could have their career shortened by having harder fights winning the lonsdale belt outright then going on a tough commonwealth run and then having to beat top european talent to win the euro belt where there is other continents with weaker boxers so their world level fighters dont have some of the fight knocked out of them before fighting for world honours.
The thing is theres guys out there being overlooked that are capable of testing the likes of Smith/Fielding for the Britih etc and being robbed of decent paydays because 1.There not in the clique with a big baller promoter like FW/EH and 2. The likes of FW/EH see them as to dangerous whilst protecting the ever so important O on their record , Hate seeing british guys robbed of a chance/payday in lieu of some polish plasterer
It's all about marketability though isn't it. People who know boxing know the "0" doesn't mean anything if your fighting plums... And that if fielding / smith fought, the loser wouldn't be shamed as it's not a bad loss... But some would see them as failing on the domestic scene, so therefore now where near good enough for the world level..! Sad but true!
:deal Much like Degale and Groves. Was a great domestic rivalry fight, Now look at both Degale title holder depite losing to Groves. Now if they rematch it will be massive and that is all down to the first dust up they had. Them two for a unification fight is HUGE compared to what it would have been had they never fought before.
Area titles FIRST, then National titles but not without that regional belt and at least 15 fights under your belt, then Continental titles, i.e Commonwealth, Euro and other Global Regions, then WORLD Titles, not without holding or having advanced from said aforementioned titles, and Not without at least 25 fights under your belts!!!
But the first fight is what we want more of! It was for British and Commonwealth titles both undefeated and the loss didn't really impact DeGales career which was a point previously mentioned.
