its a 160 pound title for a reason i know what it is, i just stated it. point is, with only 154.1 through 160.0 and you choose 155, yes its within the middleweight division, but so is 156-160.0 its just sad and the sign of the times. if you want to be middleweight champ, then fight guys who are between that limit. otherwise hes fighting drained middleweights and it looks bush league. Dont remember Hagler , Hearns, Duran, Mugabi, McCallum, Toney, Nunn, fighting at 157 limit for the 160 pound title. and everyone is desperate for a payday at some point. thats the point. he has 14 title defenses in a row all by KO, and has to beg a guy that has 2 fights at middleweight? i think hes a little more deserving than Daniel Geale who he KTFO 2 fights earlier
If it's a unification of GGG's and Cotto's middleweight belts then it should be held at 160. Why would it be "good" for it not to be?
It's not a 160 title, it's a MIDDLEWEIGHT title. I couldn't read the rest, cause obviously YDKSAB.. :yep
dont think you will ever see Cotto fighting any fight at the middleweight limit. but youre right, about the unification. Its pretty unaccecptable to be defending his title less than 160 . The Fight Game called him out on that last week....it cheapens the title of 160 pound champ
Irrelevant, especially concerning Cotto vs Canelo.. Cotto wins, he'll retire, Canelo wins, he'll milk the belt and will wait for GGG to get old.. Meanwhile, Bumlovkin is waiting for handouts, fighting the Monroe Jr's of the world while refusing to step it up.
And he means it today. But he's ALWAYS stated that he wants to unify his division before he starts the move up. That's more important to him than any 168 fighter.
im not knocking cotto for being smart. but his middleweight reign is very convenient. He beat a guy that as a junior middle fighting at middle. it was a great win but sergio was a guy with 46 fights at 147 and 154 geaale was just a joke , GGGs left overs now he will defend the middleweight title against a guy with zero middleweight fights. just give the belt up if youre not gonna defend it against real middleweights.
After losing and getting embarrassed by Trout, Cotto was about to call it quits and retire from boxing.. Martinez, the MW champ of the world saw this fight and called him out thinking it would be an EZ payday. Cotto hooked up with Roach, and completely reinvented his fighting style. He knocked out Rodriguez then met the MW champ Martinez. Cotto hit him with a chunky left hook in the first round which shook up Martinez's equilibrium and continued to beat him up until the corner stopped it. After that, he had a year lay off due to promotional disputes, fought Geale, a former unified MW champ and GGG's best opponent. He knocked him out in a better fashion than GGG and is now set up to fight the Mexican Irishman. Those three fights right there eclipse anything on GGG's resume. It's even more amazing that a shot midget damaged goods WW is doing this.. :yep
GGG super fans really shouldn't hate on this fight, like the guy above me said Cotto fought/beat "The Real MW Champ" in Martinez, fought/beat GGG's best opponent in a tune up, and will now next be facing the #1 JMW and former unified JMW Champ Alvarez. Canelo right now, could easily be the "WBA Champ) right now with his win over Lara. Inversely Canelo is on a run of his own 4 out of his last 5 fight's have been vs top 10 rated JMW's, 3/5 were matchups of #1vs#2 he went 2-1, and is now fighting the " Real MW Champ" in Cotto. It's really no discussion a better fight is happening! I could understand if they're fighting bums instead but there not but he is. 155 is low should at least be around 157/8 if anything, 155 is really a non title JMW fight. Even still didn't Martinez win the title under 160, BHop-Hoya at 57 ect...
then Cotto should forfeit his 160 lbs titles, because fighting for the MW title at a CW closer to 154 is a joke
