1.Did you bother to watch Pinky in his 2 bouts leading up to the Tyson fight? Not the same guy. Who thought that version had any sort of chance? The only folks giving Pinky a shot were people not watching all of his bouts. 2. I was at the fight. It went exactly as I thought it would and gambled on it---ko1. Spinks had fought no serious threats at heavy let alone a youthful hitter. I thought there were 3 or more guys better than Spinks at that time since he was showing his age. 3. Correct. but the guy turned pro in 1960. That title reign you speak of began 14 years later. And he beat the youthful pedigree guys to do it when he was the old guy in there. 4. Tucker was not that good. Never was and he did well because the 84 amatuer group was not that powerful. Big fish in a small pond. And it was DKP that helped a ton and got that dq overturned to keep that undefeated record. Without that promoter, the guy is not a factor. Spinks was only going to fight certain styles and was never ever going to clean out the division. But that Tyson opponent list of defenses were all beatable fighters. No juggernauts in there and no minefields. Those fighters came around later and we saw the results of that type of pedigree.
The guys from Tyson's era were no worse than the guys from Holmes' era. Some of them were the same guys. No worse than the guys Ali fought in his first reign either. Even in the 70s for Ali, I wouldn't say the division was ridiculously stacked. Frazier was great but also benefitted from fighting smaller heavyweights. I doubt he'd have as much success in later eras. Foreman was great but flawed. Norton, Lyle, Young etc. would get nowhere with Tyson.
agreed..and as far as him being unbeatable, its debatable but he imo is the closest you will find to being a unbeatable fighter in his prime 87-91
Douglas beat a prime Tyson. An underprepared and over confident Tyson, sure, but he beat the living **** out of him on the other hand. Holy soundly beat a past prime Tyson while himself probably further past his prime. So they both have a good shout. And I wouldn't wouldn't be surprised if Ali, Holmes, Bowe, Lewis and Vitaly at their best also beat prime Mike.
Or course. Marciano would just duck and dodge those torpedos coming at him 100mph until Tyson gets tired.
Muhammad Ali would completely mug him. It would hardly be a contest. It seems cruel to even put Tyson throught that. Ali wasn't a big concussive puncher so it's gonna be painful cuts, bruises, swellings. Closed eyes. A whole world of pain. Some crying going on before it's all over.
Frazier, Dempsey, Marciano, Louis, Bowe will get stopped or put to sleep. Vitali will lose a wide UD. Ali, Liston, Lewis, Holyfield and Holmes, Foreman could pull it off.
