Just watched it for the first time since seeing it live. This is boxing at the highest level. What a great performance from Pascal. Rounds 4-7 he is fighting brilliantly and matching Kovalev. He is boxing smoothly, while sneaking in huge punches throughout the rounds. There is a legitimate sense from the home crowd that Pascal can pull off the upset in these rounds. What a beast Kovalev is though. He calmly walks down Pascal with the jab and never seems worried, even when Pascal is doing excellent work. Kovalev's jab is underrated and very heavy. Tactical fight, yet fierce. Not a fight of the year candidate, but a perfect example of the sweet science. Both men boxing brilliantly, but still throwing with bad intentions. Good stoppage from the ref, Pascal seems out on his feet from the Kovalev slip to the stoppage. I don't think the fight needs a rematch, but it does prove that Pascal holds his own with anyone else at LHW and would have a legitimate shot at beating Stevenson. Just some random thoughts about Kovalev-Pascal... bbb
It was a fan friendly fight but by no means it was boxing at the highest level. Kovalev was simply too much for Pascal to handle.
Pascal is still a high quality fighter and could possibly beat any 175 pounder in the world besides Kovalev.
This. I remember how many people said Kovalev would crack and get KO'd. People thought he had no chin he ate some of Pascal's punches, tired his ass out, and TKO'd him. Would of been a KO if the ref didn't stop him. I wanna see Artur Beterbiev go against some of these top LHW's.. that guy is the future of this division.
I'd love to see Pascal-Stevenson as well, I think he could take the pimp out. But I'm pretty sure Adonis would duck him too.
There is an interview with Pascal talking about Artur Beterbiev. Apparently he trains with him. He mentioned that his neck was sore for a week after sparring with Beterbiev, and that "he has a surprising amount of punch power".:!:
Kovalev pointing at Pascal and laughing was pretty macabre when he realized the dude was shuffling along like a zombie after getting clobbered. Guy showed a lot of heart managing to make a fight of it though. Went to his home turf as well just like the Cleverly fight.
Well, you kind of need a twisted taste of entertainment to enjoy boxing and even more so to making a career out of it.
Kovalev haters give him not much credit for that fight. Look at pascal's resume, he's a hell of a fighter himself. I would bet on pascal over anyone in LHW right now not named kovalev, even current beterbeive
