Ward right now has beaten a past prime Kessler A stylistic dream in carl froch And a sicken down big lhw chad Dawson who had no business at 168. And a plodding Abraham. His resume isn't the stuff of legends.
There's nothing really to debate. Paul Smith was used as a tune up because of Ward's inactivity. There's nothing to criticise. But the point is, Joe fought guys of that calibre frequently in title defences. Also, the WBO weren't at all respected back in the late 90's/early 00's, and they became a laughing stock with the famous Darrin Morris fiasco.
I agree that Joe fought Smith level guys in title fights. And seeing as though he's bragged on numerous occasions of his number of WBO defences, I can only assume that he was more than happy to fight them.
What big fights is he avoiding? He's only just come back. Let's see what happens in the next 12 months.
wards first title fight, Kessler, was better than anything calzaghe did until he fought Kessler. joes LAST title fight. polar opposites.
I've seen nothing but Joe Calzaghes own words confirming there was any offers at all to Kelly Pavlik or Carl Froch. It might have been him running his mouth to justify why he went after a money grab against two old timers. After all, it's completly irrelevant if "they had the chance but turned it down" back then if the fights in question made sense at the point in time when the reporter asked Calzaghe about them. While Calzaghe was a prize fighter, at least he was able to be just that. Andre Ward seems unable to, and that's the difference between the two of them. Ward is a poor mans Calzaghe. Calzaghe would have considered Lucian Bute another Jeff Lacy or Mario Veit and went straight at him. He would have laughed himself to death when Bute said he was prepared to travel, and slapped the living daylight out of him if he didn't score a trade mark brittish stoppage first. Calzaghe would have been all to eager to fight an aging and slowing down Froch in front off his hometown fans, after seeing him struggle with George Groves. And it between all of this, he would have kept busy slapping up mandatory cans and in general spitting bull**** about his own greatness, instead of "sitting back" and complaining like Ward. I don't expect boxers to be saints. I expect them to be fighters. And that's what Calzaghe was. Ward seems to spend more time feeling sorry for himself.
Prime Kessler was a very good fighter. Past prime Kessler was decent. Right now his single win over prime Kessler beats anything ward has on his resume. But let's see how ward will carries on.
what a load of rubbish, kesslers fights with ward and calzaghe were barely 2 years apart. the only difference was with ward he wasn't injured. prime calturd argument, more like.
I think Froch and Kessler were at a similar level. Joe beat Kessler in a good, competitive fight. Andre beat Froch relatively easy with a fractured hand.
Anyone who knows both fighters knows that this is a dirty horrible s****py affair that could go either way.
Kessler prime was a better fight than froch, also zaggers would have done the same to froch. The scorecards even wider... Also Kessler is a sharper puncher and more textbook than Froch. Froch is cakewalk for ward and zaggers.
ok, you keep typing the same argument that's been failed, I guess that what you're best at. and add "son" to try and validate this time.
Each and every one that could be made at SMW. If Ward wants to step up his game, he still got time to do it. The hitlist should be Bardau, Groves and DeGale, possible Andre Dirrell as well.
