He lost to his best opponents, yes. But Oscar was great.

    That's another BS urban myth.

DLH has victories over Chavez and Whitaker who stand head and shoulders above any of FLoyd and Pac's victories.

There is so much wrong with this idea...

Oscar probably wouldn't be able to make 130-135-140 for the amount of years and fights that Floyd did, so who knows. Oscar has significantly different body dimensions which is why he elevated to 160 and to 154 much faster than Floyd did so who knows. I suspect that Oscar could largely dominate Floyds' opposition until Welterweight at least. Then he has no chance. Why?

Oscar was 34 when he fought Floyd, who was 30. Going back to when Oscar was 30 would put him right at the Mosley rematch, Sturm gift, Hopkins loss... Safe to say that Oscar would lose almost every single one of Floyds' fights since 2007 when you think about it, especially considering that Oscar would be boiled down to make Welterweight by this point, as evidenced against Pacquiao when he made that ill fated attempt down in weight.

How old and close to their end were Chavez and Whitaker at the time Oscar fought them?

Either way, he still lost to 5 of his 7 best opponents then.

That is such a typical hater assessment but very poor and obviously skewed. How do you bring up those guys yet not bring up Genaro Hernandez, Rafael Ruelas, Liejha, and Hernandez was same size as oscar, just as tall. Besides the height didn't really have anything to do with his success at LW, it was his speed and power. He was knocking guys out like tyson did when he blew on the scene.

And most don't think Quartey won. That is not true at all, the only ones who think oscar lost that fight are haters. You don't get knocked on your ass twice and get outlanded overall in power punches an expect to win. And there's a poll here you can search for for the pernell fight and the majority think Oscar won that fight also.

Everyone knows Oscar has one of the best, if not the best, resume in boxing in the past 20-30 years. Funny you grab Forrest's name as ONE of the only guys he didn't get around to fighting. For fuk sakes, he completely obliterated the man who beat forrest twice anyway. Forrest was never in the path for Oscar to fight anyway. You make it sound as if oscar would have ducked him, yet goes up and faces hopkins lol and prime Floyd and Pac when he was over the hill. yet avoids forrest years earlier when he was active and not shot yet? lol Yea OK.

The only thing wrong with oscar's career is he was completely F'd in two of his biggest fights during his prime.

    Hatton and Marquez, yes.

But it's about the age and weight. I don't think you are understanding that.

38 year old Oscar de la Hoya at 147 beating Maidana?

Oscar retired at 35. Last fight being the Pacquiao one. He would be that Oscar, even 3 years older in the case of Maidana. He would be exactly that Oscar for a fight with 2011 Ortiz. I personally don't think that bodes well for Oscar.

I actually agree with this, DLH popularity had a lot to do with his Olympic success and looks, not saying he wasn't talented because he was, not saying he is/was overrated because he wasn't, but he did lose a lot of big fights, good or bad decisions. I do give DLH a lot of credit for him not ducking anybody.

Oscar was great. Floyd Sr's training and influence on him took him out of his natural dancing explosive fighting style and hurt him. He was a better fighter earlier in his career before he met Floyd. He just needed to build on what he had, not change into some stiff robot fighter.
