Froch has "bigger" names but Calzaghe has better wins & career.

Only casuals would think Froch CV beats Joe's....

 

the whole Calzaghe thing kinda passed me by,i was never a fan .i thought he just used to throw hundreds of slaps ?after Benn/Eubank/Collins/Watson etc it kinda died a death for me ...

was he actually any good?

 

He was pretty good but he has a very dedicated, almost militant fan base who make him out to be some sort of ATG on par with the likes of Leonard, Duran etc.

the 0 on his record seems to have sent a lot of people loopy ?although like i said a lot of his fights passed me by as i wasnt much of a fan

what would be his 3 stand out fights and ill give them a watch?

i seen the Kessler one which i thought was close until last few rounds

 

The Lacy fight fight was a good performance, all be it against a limited opponent. Obviously his other big win was Hopkins but that fight was terrible and Calzaghe was very lucky to come away with the win. Other than that there isn't much else to talk about.

ive seen the Hopkins fight it stunk,but i thought maybe that was a Hopkins thing?...Calzaghe was slap happy in that fight too

it is a generally a weak, sub-euro one apart from Kessler.

 

But he didn't, did he? The only facts we know, are that Froch went 1-1 with Kessler (after Cazlaghe had already beaten him) and that Calzaghe beat him much more convincingly.

Calzaghe was THE man in the division, had unified all 4 belts for the first time ever and whilst being the undisputed champion in the division then went up and beat THE man at LHW and became the champion there too. That is MUCH better than anything Froch has done. Not to mention he was a title holder for much of his career.

Froch was a very limited, crude brawler who's chin and stamina got him to world level. His best wins are over a green Pascal, Bute, Abraham and Kessler.

Most people I've spoken to including fellow Brits, scored the Dirrell fight for Dirrell, where Carl as per usual was getting outboxed for long stretches of the fight. Jermain Taylor was something like 107-100 up going into the 12th round after dominating Froch for most of the fight. Groves had won pretty much every round in their first fight before his chin and stamina issues came to light.

Head to head Calzaghe was better, achievements wise Calzaghe was better.

For quality of opposition I have to give the nod to Froch, he never ducked a fight and I can respect that and when he fell short it was to quality opposition.

Calzaghe was a great fighter, with unfortunately not so great ambition or resume.

 

I love how people try to make the Taylor fight a loss for Carl. The fight is over 12 rounds and he did an amazing job to win that fight at virtually the final bell.

Of course it wasn't a loss, it was just an example of a fight where Carl was outboxed for most of it. As a boxer his skills were very limited.

Carl's chin and stamina are among the best in the world boxing, and it was those attributes and his physicality that allowed him to make so many comebacks.
