Which British boxers past or present went on to achieve more than you ever thought they would? A prime example for me is Jamie McDonell, I never thought he'd get beyond British title level but now he'd have 3 world belts if there was any justice.

Ovill McKenzie, Ricky Burns, Lee Selby and Josh Warrington. Stuart Hall winning a world title was also very unexpected.

I'd say Bruno from the past as no one would have thought he'd get there at the end.

    That's a good shout.

I never used to rate him especially after he struggled badly with Glen Johnson. Thought he was quite lucky to reach the final of the super 6 as well. Never thought he would get to where he is now.

Superb call, in the modern era he is the clear winner. A man who in 1982 was an 'Area level' fighter; but by 1988 he would be at least a pick'em with virtually any 175lber on the planet.

Mentions to Alan Minter and as suggested; Jim Watt and Steve Robinson.

What? For years and years the thought by millions was he would get there.

No one expected Froch to do what he has done, as the OP said, Jamie McDonnell, one that could do this too is Nick Blackwell.
