Froch v groves 2 only sold wembley because the first fight was great and controversial

 

Limmond v Harrison at Ibrox a couple of hours before, split PPV show. In fact Celtic park as Ibrox is only 52,000 capacity.

GGG v Froch at Wembley, probably have to rip out all the seats as I just don't think 80,000 seats will do it these guys are huge superstars.

think Khan brook with Frampton quigg as the undercard could sell it out but can't see Hearn or Framptons team having that fight as chief support.

 

Having watched the Froch/Groves fight at Wembley, i have to say i won't got back to watch another boxing event, no matter who's fighting as it's not much of a spectacle when sitting so far away from the action and with it being open air it didnt have the atmosphere and tension as the Froch/Bute fight for example - that was electric.

You look at who turned out for Froch Groves at Wembley and it was mostly white working class, don't see them filling Wembley for Joshua anytime soon. If Fury hadn't played up his pikeyness so much he might have sold it out but he's never going to be embraced fully.

Really depends on Joshua, on his rise and who is available to face. Most heavyweights don't bring in a huge appeal and Klitschko will be gone by the time AJ can bring in that much of a fan base. Can't think of any other rising stars at HW or current fighters that may propel to worldbeater status.

Degale Groves could do it, but I think they'll both need some big defences, or at least big show defences that capture the casuals' imagination. Good point on Frampton Quigg being great support, but probably unlikely.

 

Joshua v wilder or fury I think could be possible to sell 60k+, not yet though

Think to sell 70k+ you'd need two quality world title fights, two top fighters and at most 60/40 fights (and that's assuming the tickets are a bit less than Froch groves 2)

 

I'm hesitant to agree as Fury seems set to fight Wlad, who will most likely win by KO. If so Fury Wilder will probably happen, so lessens the loser of that's chances and reputability. I know it's all speculation, but I can't really see either gaining momentum and keeping it by the time Joshua gets there.

Im hesitant to say I can't see Joshua fighting at a filled Wembley as let's be honest how many of could have seen Froch or groves doing it 2 years ago? Froch had just sold out the O2 fast and groves I don't think headlined a show since the degale fight (which was up until a few days before the fight was chief support), again things can snowball fast so who knows, hell even a skeete Gavin rematch could sell out Wembley!

Re cheaper tickets, more a reference to those in the stands, £50 I think was the cheapest, shouldn't really charge more than £25 for the upper tier, maybe £70 for the lower max (think it was over £100 last time)

 

Froch-Bute had a football hooligan atmosphere. The guys behind me were completely sloshed and acting like bell ends. I thought they were going to try and start a fight themselves.

Then two idiots further back did start fighting and were thrown out.
