i know if jamie had a punch he woukd of had this midget out in 3 rounds. i actually thought conlan would jave him out late after beating the hell out of him and the ref calling it off. but it was conlan who was taking the beating
People need to remember that the opponents brought in were cannon fodder. Jailme should have been able to deal with that guy with ease. I really worry about Jamie if he is thrown in with the better guys at his weight. He will get hammered.
Amazing luck???????? Knocking people out isn't lucky its a skill and Andy has skill and power a plenty.
It's been an amazing sequence of events the at things have unfolded for Andy. A couple of years ago it looked like he was going to retire with little to show for years of effort. I was calling for him to retire myself. Then suddenly...Low risk fights with big rewards came out of nowhere leaving him with a title a last. Nobody wold have prefricted what has happened for Andy in all fairness. The very winnable title opportunity opening up versus the awful korobov was amazing. Roy of the rovers stuff in a boxing setting. But in the case of conlon he can't be expected to emulate that. He is like Andy without the luck or the punch and I'm a bit concerned for him to be honest.
Yes indeed. Fra on here is a big fan of his. Great attacking fighter. Be a tough nights work for most.
Just looking at Conlon again there. There is a lot to like about his style. I justcant put my finger on what exactly he is lacking that stops him from being really good. He showed a lot of good things against Junior- usual guts and fitness obviously but nice slick movement, footwork, nice handspeed & punch selection etc. What does he lack? Obviously he lacks power - but there is more to it than that, lots of top guys lack power. Cant quit put my finger on it....???
I always liked his tenacity and toughness...got to give Mickey Ward credit, an Irish American Boxer who's trilogy against Arturo Gatti still ranks as some of the greatest boxing moments in history
So we have 2 lackings - power and, yes, head movement too. I just dont think thats the whole story. Anybody see anything else missing from Conlon? Why isnt he more successful? Some things are missing from his game. He is huge at the weight, super fit, tough, brave and he is a free-flowing instinctive puncher, with all the shots.... (albeit a light puncher). He does look like a very good top boxer at times. In many ways he ought to be near the top. Yet he gets beaten up by ordinary oppponents...every fight is a war for him??? Somehow he just doesnt stamp his authority on his opponents??? I dunno....
Bary could box surprising well too. People forget that. Against a guy that he knew going in could hurt him Barry could be a smart enough boxer. His jab was excellent. He put on a masterclass against Juan LaPorte - a big right hand puncher. It was against light-punching guys he didnt respect enough that he could get careless and sloppy, get all marked up, and make a hard fight out of what should have been a lot easier.
