Roy was a heck of a puncher, but it's not likely at all he's knocking out GGG with one punch. I give him a lot of credit for the Tate fight given his usual durability, but GGG is much closer to Hopkins and Castro than Tate.

If GGG didn't have an iron chin, I'd be much less apt to favor him. And, when you've fought nearly 400 times between amateur and professional without hitting the canvas, you've got an iron chin. Without it, even an average puncher like Mercado would drop you just out of odds coming due from so many fights.

What it boils down to, again, is styles. Draw up a middleweight in the lab who is the biggest nightmare to Roy in the last 30 years, and Golovkin is exactly what you would get.
    -exceptional footwork
    -offensive variety and combination punching
    -workrate
    -iron chin
-1 punch power in either hand
    -hellacious body puncher
    -relentless, but economical pressure
    -counterpunching and elite timing skills

It's the relentless pressure and skill at cutting the ring off that will get to Roy mentally, particularly a young, 160 pound Roy that is used to being Superman and has never been exposed to that kind of constant pressure and threat. And no, he has never dealt with a fighter who has that blend of style and tools GGG does.

I rate Roy highly H2H, and for those who prefer him here, cool. But to deny that GGG is a bad matchup for him style wise is drinking a bit much of the Kool aid for my taste. You'd have to think there was no such thing as a bad matchup for Roy to really believe that, and I don't think that's true for any fighter.

Again, it's a styles thing. Mature Hopkins matches up much better against Golovkin than Roy despite Roy having that advantage against Bernard.

consider a moment the gulf between Willie Monroe Jr. and Roy Jones.
It's a gulf so great that it's silly to try and quantify.

Now review round 5 of Monroe Jr. versus Golovkin.

Now, close your eyes and substitute Roy Jones Jr. in Monroe's place. Instead of Golovkin getting hit in the face with punches from a feather fisted mediocrity, imagine punches from one of the hardest punching and fastest middleweights of all time.

You honestly think GGG treats Roy like he does Monroe?

I'm sad you didn't address the points in my post- if that's your opener, I'd love to hear the rest of the routine.

Jones of today would get KOd. Not sure what round though. Prime Jones would of boxed circles around him, and possibly knocked him out.

There's not one logical explanation that Jones would even take the fight. He never fougt a savage puncher in his whole career. After seeing that Glass Jaw we know why. Jones is/was a fraud. His career was smoke and mirrors. After 1994 he didn't fight any worthy challengers until Tarver knocked him silly.

Thanks Mind Reader- I know you're a huge fan of Roy's, and I give you props for backing your points up when it comes time to debate. Even if we're not on the same side of the fence, I know you're coming from a reasonable place.

I exaggerate from time to time for the heck of it, but ultimately I respect Roy's accomplishments and the H2H nightmare he is for most. It takes a rare combination of attributes for me to give someone a serious chance against him at his best.

I'm far too tipsy to even begin to list the middleweights through the ages who would murder GGG but, suffice to say that prime Roy Jones is certainly one of them...I watched Nigel Benn vs the Gman recently and both of them prime smash GGG to smithereens and I'm a fan of GGG and yet Roy Jones would likely school both of gym with them having the slimmest of punchers chances

Roy had a bad habit of allowing himself to get walked into the ropes. An opponent who stays on the job, instead of throwing a couple of combinations and then back off, would be troublesome for Roy. Also, GGG throws a lot of hooks and uppers, which is best for penetrating the defence of the opponent (Roy used a lot of hooks and uppers himself).

I'm not saying GGG would have won, but he is a bad match up for Roy for sure. Given GGG's poor defence, lacking speed and Roys power, it's not beyond question that Roy knocks him out. Roy would have been the favourite of course.

Lol! I love GGG but PRIME RJJ at 160lbs absloutely destroys GGG. GGG only hope is to land a huge shot on RJJ who contrary to popular belief had a solid chin. Too much speed, too much power. I thnk RJJ beats Hagler at 160 prime for prime also. Roy was just out of this world.

Thats true he would most likely come up with some ridiculous offer of " 90\10 and I'll kick your ass" killing the fight from the get go.

Wow this thread carries on. RJJ was a freak of a physical specimen, he makes Floyd look like Guerrero. RJJ pound for pound was the fastest and had the best reflexes of all-time. He carried his speed from Middle all the way to LHW and his punches at LHW were still like a blur.

Watch his fights when he was at his prime, he was insanely good. Other-worldly good.
