He was far to methodical, slow. Yes , he had good power, but he was very well managed, he could also be outworked Rex Layne would have beaten him Lastarza would have outboxed him Loved to have seen ****ell and Bruno.... That would be a war. Bruno could win, but likely loses twice against those 4. Just my opinion. Marciano would have beaten Bruno too.
Rex Layne was not a particularly good fighter but he'd probably KO Bruno if both were in there primes. Terry Lawless preferred to match Bruno with washed-up fighters and tomato cans. Fighters too fat or too poor to hit Frank back. Even Don C0ckell would stand a good chance of beating Bruno, which is funny because light-heavy Randolph Turpin knocked Don out.
C0ckell showed he could absorb punishment against Marciano. He had a bit of boxing talent too. His chance against Bruno would be lasting into the later rounds and upping the pace late, Bruno might crumble. It's hard to figure Bruno. He did well against some very good heavyweights but ultimately lost. Most of his wins were against pitiful opponents.
I remember seeing a prime Bruno labouring to an 8 round win over Reggie Gross, who was just an overweight light-heavyweight. Gross was taller than C0ckell though, but never a contender.
I wouldn't bet a second hand commode that any of these guys would be top heavyweight contenders in the 1980's.
They weren't top heavyweight contender in the 50s either. Well Lastarza was briefly. The top contenders in the 50s were Archie Moore joe Louis joe Walcott Ezzard Charles Nino Valdes bob baker Clarence Henry Eddie Machen zora Folley Sonny Liston IngemarIngemar Johansson You see these men being top contenders in the 80s?
