Ron Lyle ,Cleveland Williams ,and Mac Foster do not have a record of stopping many top level opponents does this mean they did not hit hard?

    All heavyweights hit hard.

I made that statement in response to the claim that Douglas punched much harder than Ali. Puncher is a relative term though, I did not mean to say that Douglas couldn't hit hard. He was a world class heavyweight, of course he could. Just that he wasn't what you would call a puncher. Neither was Ali, but could still hit.

If they are 6'4" and 230lbs plus, I think they will get your attention when they land on you.

Neither Bugner nor Mathis beat anyone as good as Douglas ,on the other hand he beat someone significantly better than both of them.

Yes, Foxy 01 stated "Douglas hit a lot harder than Ali, that.s for sure". I argued against it.

Put Douglas in Bugner's era, and he'd lose as many as Bugner did.

    I agree.
The point made is Douglas and Ali are not known as punchers.
Frazier took Ali's best shots for 15 rounds, 12 rounds and 14 rounds. I feel he could take Douglas's shots too.
Others were insisting that Frazier wouldn't even do as well as Tyson.

I don't get some of these comments, they take mythology and run with it. Have you seen the type of punishment Tyson is capable of taking? Against Lewis it was unbelievable. Outside of those with truly great chins, such as McCall, I don't many fighters who could have lasted as long, getting hit as cleanly as he did. And yet, Douglas had enough power to stop him. And posters than say he's anything but a puncher.

I just re-watched the fight yesterday and what exactly are your lying eyes watching? Cause he sure as hell looked like he could punch to me.

Well since we're talking specifically about that version of Douglas in that particular fight, it seems to me his KO ratio was 100%. The question is could Douglas have landed those type of punches against Frazier and it he did, would Frazier be able to absorb them, the was Tyson couldn't?

    Joe Frazier...

Eddie Futch won't tolerate his corner men treating swelling with a condom full of water, and Frazier unlike Tyson ( on that evening ) isn't going to sit their looking for that one big shot. He'd be placing pressure on Buster all night long, and James had the tendency to quit when the going got tough...

I think all you have to do is look at Tyson's record and see the type of punishment he was capable of taking and then ask yourself on that particular night, did Douglas have power or not?

    Seems to me he did.

That upper cut he caught Tyson with had plenty of power, as did those rights that were consistently landing.

I wouldn't argue any of this, but we are only talking about the one version of Douglas, not his career shortcomings. Douglas moved surprisingly well that evening, enough to impress SRL in any event. And he had enough power to not only hurt Tyson, but to stop him. And it was pointed out in the fight, that Douglas size was creating all kinds of problems for Tyson.

So you believe Frazier has a better chin than Tyson ? Do you believe Frazier would avoid all the hard shots Tyson got nailed with and just keep on with the "pressure" ? Frazier proved in the majority of his fights that he can easily be hit as the state of his face was evidence of it plenty of times, so do you believe that Frazier over night becomes a defensive wizzard who just dishes it out but never recieves ? Do you believe Foremans glancing blows who bounced Frazier from pillar to post are harder then Douglas's flush full bore right hands he landed against Tyson ? Do you believe a 205 pound Frazier is as physically strong as a 218-220 pound Tyson? How many times did Tyson hit the deck to become the undisputed/undefeated Heavyweight champ with successful defenses until the Douglas fight and how many times was Frazier down in his run to the championship and title defenses until Foreman ?
