Bruno too stiff and easy to hit, he could not be possibly as muscled in that era and even if he found a time machine, I see Walcott catching him with something to take him out, I think Charles would beat him and Archie as well. In regard to the question Layne pre-Marciano could do it,Joe Louis, I think Bruno may be too big for Kockel and Matthews...LaStarza its 50-50 if Roland is in top form and Bruno is above the Smith-Witherspoon days
But regardless Smith and Witherspoon were both big men who could crack and who were both behind against Bruno before they finally landed what they needed to.
It doesn't follow that they beat him simply because they were big/hard hitting. It might be the case that he would have got dusted by Michael Spinks as well.
Does this line of reasoning also permit us to observe that Roland Lastarza was beaten by the 14-9 Rocky Jones and the 16-7 Julio Mederos? Or Rex Layne being KO"d in one by Earl Walls? Or Harry Mathews starting his career at Welterweight? And what elite rate heavy weights did any of them beat when stepping up?
Bruno would have been way too big, too good a jab, athleticism, strength and power for the lot. He may have had limitations but this lot had more. Way too small and weak and not that good to overcome the massive disadvantages. Layne is the only 1 who stands a shot and he's still too small. As for the idiot who picked LaStarza to outbox the man who outboxed Lennox Lewis
Observe away. Rex Layne split a series with both Walcott and Charles, so it is hardly fair to characterize him as a guy who generally lost when he stepped up. After he lost to Marciano, he went on a loosing streak, which resulted in him being a stepping stone for LaStarza to challenge for the title. LaStarza then in turn became ****ell's stepping stone to the title. So in summary Layne has real substance to his resume, LaStarza was perhaps lucky to get Layne when he did but it is OK on paper, and ****ell made a career of feasting off Marciano's road kill.
Bruno has good scalps in McCall, Coetzer, Coetzee and Bugner...He gave a good account of himself against Lewis, Tyson, Witherspoon and Smith, all of whom bore the resmeblance of hard punching big men with decent chins and all of whom had little or nothing in common with Lastarza, ****ell, Layne or Mathews who never became champions while incidentally Bruno did....I think Frank has a good chance of beating most or all those guys and would even be a tough fight for whoever the champion was at the time.
Tell you what Suzie, make some threads and I'll do my best to f*ck them up for you by talking about irrelevant subjects in them ok?
Its hardly fair to focus on Frank losing to the elite of his era while ignoring those other guys losing to lesser men. While some of them might have done well at higher levels you can't just omit sections of their careers, parts of which occurred in close proximity to when they did their best work as well.
We are matching each man in his prime as he actually was ,not taking some one backwards or forwards in some hypothetical time machine if you are unhappy with the strictures of this thread don't post in it. Neither Walcott or Charles are names that feature in the title of this thread, therefore by definition your inclusion of them is irrelevant, and immaterial to the thread.
Why don't you make a thread about it and see what responses you get instead of f*cking mine up every chance you get?
My concern with Bruno is this. His resume is built on loosing efforts on the one hand, and wins over good fighters, who were notoriously inconsistent, on the other. That means that when placing him in fantasy matches like this, you tread very carefully.
I watched C*ckell get kod on You Tube by an overstuffed middleweight, Randy Turpin. Gross had 17 fights as a lhvy though he scaled over the 175lbs limit for almost all of them, he had 11 as a full fledged heavyweight and typically weighed 200lbs plus , he was 6'3" ****ell had 13 fights as a heavyweight or if you like. 2 more than Gross.Gross scaled 218 for his fight before Bruno ,[ against Tyson,] he doesn't look over weight to me.
Layne beats Bruno via late stoppage. His bull rushes and dirty in fighting would have Bruno very uncomfortable and probably wear him out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJP3UXzLPTg Layne prior to the Marciano fight could also take severe punishment and keep coming. I don't think anybody on film stood up to flush Satterfield shots like this. Not even the giant and reasonably durable Valdez. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yx5r381bpUY Bruno in theory could maybe stop Layne but I just can't see him getting dirty enough with Layne in the phone booth to give himself the chance.
I would favor Bruno over those guys listed. It would not however surprise me if he got picked off once.
