Promotional outfit now he has retired? Eddie did well out of Carl (and vice-versa). After all, Carl was the MR "cash cow". Obviously AJ will take that mantle, but he's still raw. Kell can't get Khan in the ring, and he'll probably face someone like Chaves next, which is more of a fight for the hardcore. So what does Carl's retirement mean for MR's shows? Who will be there next cash cow and how long will it take for them to break out?
AJ as you've mentioned, Froch has already mentioned in Boxing News at one of his latest meet and greets in Milton Keynes he had the longest queue of fans but not to far behind him was AJ.... and he's only had what, 13 fights? He's the next BIG attraction, along with Brook... then you have the likes of Luke Campbell who I think can certainly make a few waves. I can't see Brook getting to be the household name that Froch has become, but in order for him to get close Matchroom have to get Khan in the ring. But Khan keeps moving the goal posts so when he no doubt gets given the run around once more by Mayweather, hopefully he'll sign for the fight.
Selby doesn't really have the same aura or could he go on to develop the same aura as Froch though... nor does he have that fan friendly style. Many people like to bang on about Froch "being a machine". Casuals like to see fighters going toe to toe, dishing it out and taking it... that's what Froch produced.
The cards at present about quantity not quality of fights. Matchroom will have to now match soon some of it's 168lb fighters in house, survival of the fittest. The battle of Hull, only one winner LC as much as it will be attempted to be built up.
Agreed. Lee could become very popular if he had more of a 'kill' attitude. He seems to prefer the 'Welsh Mayweather' tag though I suppose.
In boxing like the rest of life there is always another champ"The king is dead.....long live the king!"
The biggest issue for Hearn is Al Haymon. Needs to be very careful of what he does in the UK, as for Froch he has built British boxing massively and Hearn will benefit hugely from that so I don't think the loss of Froch will have too much impact as it was something that had been coming for a while now anyway
Selby, AJ, Degale, Brook. Wouldn't be that surprised if Degale fights Froch despite the announced retirement if Degale can build up quite a name.
