After two solid months of milking free publicity by encouraging the idea that he would fight the biggest sensation in the sport, at his own weight, and in his own country, one week after posting topless pictures of himself on Twitter with some comment hinting that the fight was all but done, Carl Froch has finally retired.

Hands up, I can't stand Carl Froch, his personality, the whole family around him, and the way Sky have over-projected him into some modern day Marvin Hagler, but that's irrelevant to the fact that Froch has held up the career of Gennady Golovkin for 8 or 9 weeks to feed his own ego. Whether you're as hard to like as Froch or as loveable as Frank Bruno, that ain't right.

The disappointment and frustration at Froch's antics was still raw when it was announced that the guy had landed a cushy, and presumably lucrative contract to do punditry work on Sky Sports. How out of touch is Adam Smith? The guy has already proven he's incapable of giving opinions on anybody other than himself for more than 5 minutes. His personality goes down as well as cat AIDS. Nick Halling and Carl Froch, working a fight on your TV set soon. Let it end. Please.

bet you still watched everyone of his fights on sky tho and wouldnt miss the next one if he came out retirement .... ultimately this is what its all about ... will people tune in to watch his fights. Floyd is possibly the most hated boxer in the world (possibly!) but he is a promoters/tv companies dream. More people that hate means more people will watch him ... from what i see haters are just as fanatical as those who love the fighters.

I don't understand how he could retire when he had possibly the biggest fight of his career against GGG on his radar a few weeks ago. If he won that he probably would go down as an atg. I still don't think we have seen the last of Carl froch though.

At 38 injuries mounting, money in the bank and 14 month layoff did anyone really think he would fight again after the football equivalent of a testimonial against Chavez Jr fell through?

Not his biggest fan at all.He was calling out JC when he had bigger money fights out there which he rightly took, all about coin end of the day.JC would have beaten Froch handily would of proved nothing at the time.People reinvent what they feel.

Froch provided some great nights regardless.Fighting GGG when you are banged up against a guy reaching his peak when you don't need it he bailed at the right time.

Froch only has himself to blame for being little liked. The latest events did little to improve his image. Lately opponents have had to go to great lengths to temp him into the ring, usually failing to do so. You cant be a boxer and then not want to step into the ring, so I also think it's better for boxing that he leaves the sport.
He's not retiring on a loss but he's still retiring on a bum note.

If he'd fought and beat GGG, he'd have gone down as either a bully who beat up a MW, or a cherry picker who instead of rematching Ward, beat an undersized hypejob.

The GGG fight while likely to be entertaining, was most certainly a lose lose situation, whatever the result.

I'd loved to have seen it, but you can't have everything.

Lots of talk about Froch giving everybody a bum steer by saying he's done.

I agree that we may not have seen the last of him.

A lot of fans upset at a 38year old retiring wonder why?, i think it may be because he didn't hang around long enough like your heroes tyson, rjj, Hatton etc to get ktfo

Exactly, he's retired on his own terms without knocking the legacy he's built, with his health intact and a lot of cash in the bank... boxing's not "retired him".

That's the best way to leave the game.

So did Joe Calzaghe, Lennox Lewis too, and you have to look very hard before you read criticism of them like Froch receives regularly. The problems people have with Froch are nothing to do with going out on top, it's the way he's gone about it, along with the fact that Sky Sports and Froch himself would have you believe he's some iconic figure in the annals of Boxing history, when the guy was never even rated number one in the world at his own weight.

When SKY gave the 20 designated boxing dates to one promoter a year in Matchroom plus PPV (lol) cards also you get this over hyping of any fighter on that platform.

Froch from BBC Grandstand Saturday afternoon highlights to getting PPV....Fair play to him a very good fighter in some great fights.

JC and Lennox Lewis in great fights but great fighters.
