People ignoring the business side of the sport, as usual.

The PBC on CBS for a MAYWEATHER fight is a pretty big deal.

Of course I want him to fight one of the best options out there for him. This will arguably be the first time since 2005 that he won't be doing that, if these rumors are true. I'd say 10 years between garbage opponents is pretty darn acceptable and entirely unprecedented through history, really. Ten straight years of fighting only men ranked in the top 10 in the division he fought them, top 10 P4P, or both (Maidana II being the one exception).

Name me all the ATG's and HOF's who went 10 years without a single opponent being equal to or lesser than Sharmba Mitchell of '05 or Andre Berto of '15 quality.

 

You holding him to those standards mean that you believe those standards apply to him. That is the truth. No ifs, ands, or buts here, my man.

You've been treating and feeling that Floyd is the GOAT for some time now without even knowing it. Congrats.

no, IF Floyd claims he is TBE, then he has to back this claim

as a fan of boxing, I have every right to hold him by these standards (even if I don't think he's TBE), expecting him to meet the standards he has set for himself

I'll go one step further and say everyone he's taken on in this 10 year span has either been champions of the divisions or ranked inside the TOP 5 of their respective division. He hasn't been taking on gatekeepers.

 

A fact that gets overlooked but will be lauded once he's long retired.

No matter how much people claim to dislike Floyd, deep down they understand how great he is.

 

He is claiming to be TBE. Which means he should back his claim to himself.

You don't think he's anywhere close to TBE. Therefore you have no reason to view him by those standards unless you are viewing him by those standards; that of TBE.


Yeah, you're right... None of the all time great fighters ever fight anything but elite fighters at the end of their career. Robinson went out fighting prime future Hall of Famers and nothing but them. Ali too. Duran and Chavez and Ezzard and Louis as well.

ps, the only thing I hold against Floyd (and Pac) is fighting each other at the tail end of their careers, other than that, he's fought the very best his generation has had to offer
