Kind of. Not in the sense of the proper part of the glove connecting. But the injury was caused by a legitimate punch thrown.

It's harsh to lose a fight that way, but I'm not sure that's the same as "unfair".

No. Dellboi is completely wrong here, sorry.

It was a 'blow' - but not a punch. Striking your opponents arm with your arm and damaging his shoulderis NOT a punch.

A "Punch" - in boxing terms, is where the knuckle part of the glove connects with the target area of an opponents body.

This blow (accidental arm collision) does not meet the criteria of a punch.

But the reverse (as applied in this fight) is also true.

If we allow a fighter to 'win' boxing matches by damaging his opponents arm/shoulder (by other means apart from clean puches ..in fact by virtually any means - judo moves, wrestling moves etc etc ), we risk allowing all sorts of 'wrestling' moves to creep in.

Two fighters who didn't deserve a world title shot, **** ending to the fight, a fighter who is nowhere near the best in his own country now calls himself a world champion etc etc etc...welcome to the WBO. Utter joke.

Pretty sure had it been Flanny with the injury it would have been a NC :yep

But I can live with the result. There should be a rematch though.

It was a No Contest and with it being awarded a "win" Flanagan owes him a rematch. I personally thought Flanagan would have had him anyway, and would have broken him down...but he needs to win it legit.

    No Hans - it isnt.
Obviously it goes without saying that no verdict would be rendered until AFTER the injury has been independantly medically verified.

What about Vitali Klitschko Chris Byrd, Vitali tore his shoulder so had to retire. Should that have gone to the cards?
