Agreed. That was a tight fight anyway one could look at it. Not sure what he was watching. The discrepancy was in the wide differentials in the scoring, not the contest itself. Revisionist history at work there, I'm afraid.
Untrue. This fight is widely considered one of the worst decisions in boxing history. Why don't you know this?
yeah this seems like one of those fights where nearly everyone that has watched it since it aired and looking at it in an unbiased manner disagrees with the "terrible robbery" angle that somehow sprung up desite it being clearly a very close debatable fight to anyone with any inkling on how to score a fight.
Do a google search for Ch.... sake! Unless your 15 and a complete novice who knows no better this bout is widely considered one of the worst decisions in boxing history. Look up newspapers from that time and articles concerning worst decisions in boxing history and more than likely this bout will be on that list.
I think everyone here knows the fight was highly controversial at the time. It's also one of many controversial fights where the consensus on it being a "robbery" hasn't really held up over the years.Not any different from Leonard vs Hagler or dozens of others in that respect.Anyone following the boxing community over the decades should have realised this, especially post-internet times when the hardcore followers of the sport have been able to communicate much more readily with others. This one long seems to have rightfully settled into the consensus opinion being that it was a very close\coulda gone either way kind of bout.

Associated Press......A surprised Lupe Pintor took the WBC bantamweight championship from Carlos Zarate yesterday with a split decision that caused a gasp when it was announced. Pintor who had been standing quietly in his corner opened his mouth in obvious surprise when the verdict was announced at the end of the 15 round fight at Caesars Palace. Zarate showed little emotion at the decision although he did cover his head with his gloves. Pintor went down in the 4th round from a right-left combination to the head. There were no other knockdowns. In the 10th round Zarate bloodied Pintor's nose and in the 11th opened a cut above the new champion's left eye. Here were the scores from unofficial sources. Thanks, but I get that some folks disagreed with the opinion at the time. I wonder how they would have scored it if they'd had the benefit of rewatching/rescoring it though. In any case, it was an intriguing, give-and-take fight between two skilled, powerful boxers (both among my all-time favorites). If you get a chance, you should check it out again...I think you'd be surprised by how close most of the last 2/3 of the fight was.

Change the subject when you are shown as being wrong? It's called despiration. Once again everyone from AP to Ring and everyone in between called this a robbery. Actually not just a robbery but an all time robbery. Look on the internet TODAY for the worst boxing decisions of all time and guess what? Most of the time you will see this bout on the list. The real question is where do YOU find that this thought, that this decision was a robbery, is now today considered something different? It's STILL rated one of the worst decisions of all time 35 or so years later!
