Didn't bring his avowed power to the big leagues perhaps?

He was a flawed fighter but Liston had always maintained that Williams was a helluva puncher and he had to dig deep to get through those fights.

    Well, that's just dandy.

Who exactly did KO with this vaunted power?

    IKE IBEABUCHI!!!

yes,he did stopped chris byrd with that left uppercut which he threw with great leverage, and chris did get up but made a stupid decision to argue with referee!

other than that,he throw all he had on david tua,and couldn't make a dent at him!
lewis nailed tua with few right hands and tua backed up,ike throw everything he had and couldn't make tua to back off!

he also didn't have a stellar ko record

Yeah, maybe a little. He can obviously punch but maybe not with this earth-shaking force many believe.

Maybe he doesn't belong in the conversation of 'big bangers' here, though many mention his KO power (and I love him to boot) but Jerry Quarry comes to mind.
I guess you could bring up Spencer (vastly overrated), Mac Foster (feasted on has-beens before Jerry) and Shavers (still, somewhat green at the time) but Quarry never iced a top contender.
    A textbook counterpuncher however.

Controversial pick: Marciano. He hit hard but he strikes me as more of an attrition guy. Kind of like Tszyu. Tszyu was supposedly a big puncher but I always saw him as a heavy puncher, not the kind of guy like strikes lightning. You dont want to have a weak jaw against either of them to be sure though.
