Typical Ali fan response, pretend to be so shocked that you don't even have to engage because you know deep down it's the truth. Everyone Ali beat was either a bum or hideously overrated simply due to the fact they fought Ali. OMG!!!!....but it's the truth.
You're talking about 2 completely different level of fighters. Ali was a gold medal Olympian who at the time was thought to be way to green for a longstanding champion like Liston. He was thought of as a great up and coming prospect who one day could challenge for the HW championship. Fury is a nobody who landed a shot at the champion because Wladimir has been dominant for so long, he's beaten every other top 10 fighter in the division already (outside of WIlder.) So instead of having sequels against guys he's already dominated, he's deciding to take on new challengers, regardless of how unworthy they are. If Fury beat Wladimir, it would be one of the biggest upsets in the history of the sport. I'd rank it as a much bigger shock than ALi's win over Liston. It would be Buster Douglas worthy.
Fury can certainly talk some innovative smack, he is one weird fighter to watch though, beyond awkward. There's not really a stacked enough division to see fighters climb a ladder to build up to Klitschko so it's hard to gauge many of them.
The way Klitschko grabs and holds his current competition, I have a hard time believing he would find anything about Liston humorous.
No it wouldntatsch Fury is currently about 3/1 whereas he started at 4/1 and there is another 4 months to go. Those odds will keep shortening. Probably go down to about 7/5 or closer on fight night. Douglas was about 45/1 so it wouldnt even be close. Tyson is real threat and some dont want to admit it but more people will be willing to bet money on Fury than Klitschko.
The OP wasn't saying that Fury and Ali were similar. The Op was saying the press and public attitude toward Fury is similar to the attitude that Clay had before the Liston fight, and then also compares that both Clay and Fury had similar ring experiences in their previous fights beofre the world title shot. Not once in the post did they say that Fury is a boxer akin to Ali in boxing style or standard, and therefore, it really isn't in the slightest disrespctful.
