People could meet Ricky Hatton in real life, and say he was a well built guy, when he is walking around at 180, so I don't get this " Rocky was a big guy " stuff. He was 5' 10", and a spit, with sloping shoulders, and a 39 inch chest. Possibly 42 when not in training.

I'd say Holyfield looked quicker during is early heavyweight days than he did at Cruiserweight, Ali wanted to lose fat not muscle.

It's really not close. The fantasies that his fans have of Marciano becoming some giant juggernaut boggle the mind.

I don't understand either side of the argument really.

On one hand you have people saying Marciano would be bigger nowadays, but there's no reason to say so and besides it wouldn't make him a better fighter.

On the other hand, you have people claiming that Marciano couldn't even carry 205 pounds, which seems unlikely too, since you get guys like Bert Cooper, Orlin Norris, Jean Mormeck, Michael Moorer, Chris Byrd and Ocasio Ocasio ranging in weight from 175 - 225.

And they had success too. Why not Marciano?

Yep...david Tua like most men in their early 20s gained 30 pounds of muscle naturally.

Don't let those sloped narrow shoulders of this cruiser fool you, there is a huge framed natural 230 pond man waiting to blossom.

I got to hang out with the Tua camp in the 90's. Dude was large, huge bone structure, like a damn pitbull. Marciano is so obviously- by photo and measurement- a smaller statured man... as befits the inhabitants of his homeland of Abruzzo, a place I have visited many times.

Look, I don't want to spoil your good times. Just don't try to sell me on your fantasies.

Wow, a 40 pound heavier man appears larger in photos and claims larger measurements.

Yeah, never met him but met his people....eh

Some of you may find this shocking and hard to believe,,.but weight gain increases body measurements.

You know like when you resize a ring or watch band...it doesn't mean the bones inside your skin are growing or shrinking.

Marciano trained all the time unlike most any other fighter. He ran 10 miles every day, hit 300 pound heavy bags and moved those bags. So yes the guy was a physical marvel as an athlete. If any hwt fighter was trained down it was Rocky. He was an incredibly well trained athlete. If he trained like the typical fighter he would weigh more going into bouts. However to do so he more than likely would not have the arobic fitness to go 15 rounds without tiring. Today's fighters don't need to train for a championship distance and this is one reason why they come into bouts with obviously to much weight and they gas early. Another reason why being heavier is not always an advantage.

I think both guys are bigger framed than Marciano. Can't imagine, Tyson, who when fit was a slab of muscle, ever fighting at 190 lbs. Tua was often overweight but can't imagine him fighting below 210=215 lbs.

Met him, talked to him, watched him spar.

By the way, I gained 30 pounds in college and still had 5% body fat. And did it training hard on a diet of weed and malt liquor.
