Gennady Golovkin Focused on Middleweight Unification of Titles, Says Promoter

So by that logic, Golovkin should NOT move up since he is NOT a super middleweight So you are saying it is not okay for Cotto or Canelo to fight at middleweight since they are NOT middleweights, yet you want Golovkin to move up KNOWING full well that he is NOT a supermiddle weight? How much of a ****ing hypocrite can you be

First it's:

Anybody between 154 and 168, then:
We'll go up and fight anybody at 175 then:
We'll go below 154 to fight Mayweather, then:
We'll fight Chavez or Froch at 168, then:
We will only fight Ward at 164, then:
We don't want Lara he's not a big enough name to go down to JMW, then:
We'll fight Hopkins at a catchweight (170?), then:
We're going to concentrate on unifying the middleweight title.

Now before you get started:
1) I like GGG
2) A lot of middleweights are ducking him

But he needs to get rid of those amateurs he is working with. They are making him into a clown.

 

Makes sense. Go the Hagler route. And the offer to Ward (who apparently turned down a fight with Golovkin in the past) is out there.

Golovkin is now 7 more successful title defenses from breaking Hopkins' middleweight record of 20 consecutive defenses. Might as well chase down that record as well.

Golovkin can't force fighters to fight him. But he can face the top guys who are willing to step in the ring with him, and he can consolidate the belts in the division either by winning in the ring or by having guys drop their belts to avoid him.

Good strategy here by Golovkin's promoter, I think.

Once Golovkin gets more control (or if he does) of the middleweight belts, it will be harder for guys to avoid him. So this is probably the best strategy he can take at this time.

 

I really don't understand all the "GGG has to move up" BS. Ward is the only bigger name in SMW and we're not even sure he'll resume his career as one. What's gonna happen when he can't get big fights at 168 either? He'll have to challenge fighters 30 lbs heavier than him?

 

The hell are you talking about? You and cisco fruit are complaining about GGG's competition so I listed good fighters who should send a contract because he's open to offers.

We should just CLOSE middleweight division until further notice (that is until a black American dominates it) then we can re-open it and call it STRONG, super STRONG.

 

nobody gives a **** if he can unify the division if he ends up fighting heiland for a vacant belt.....

there are still some halfway decent matchups he can make at mw....but nothing special......he has to make a move/splash soon...he cant afford to wait for canelo...it might not happen.....but hes afraid losing to ward will ruin that opportunity......

im not all that interested in ggg/lee or ggg/lemieux...def not interested in ggg/heiland....but thats prob the road were going down.....cant see a ggg/canelo matchup until winter 2016 at the earliest

 

A lot of what you write is spot on.

I am interested in GGG - Lemieux, Quillen and Lee but only Lee would fight near term (within 8 months) while Quillen will not be allowed to fight and Lemieux/Canelo wont be allowed to fight until late next year. Cotto won't fight GGG, in my opinion.

With all that being said, if the Ward fight can be made for spring of next year, that would be ideal. Even if GGG were to lose and lose in a shutout, he can still go back down to middleweight, his natural weight and try to continue dominance. Losing to an all time great super middleweight isn't anything to be ashamed of.

 

How many 190 lb fighters did Hagler fight.

His best win was a loss to the 80s Mayweather.
His second best win is a KO of the 80s Khan, and his 3rd best is over the 80s Rios.

 

If it were Quillin, Jacobs, Cotto and Canelo and Lee, passing the titles back and forth between themselves for a decade, they'd all be ATGS, and GOAT arguments would be going on about the best of that bunch.

 

Time is running out for Edwin Valero II to make a name for himself.

 

I like GGG, I'm no hater, but c'mon. First it's "anyboby from 154 to 168", to "we're focusing on 160", then "Froch @ 168, Chavez Jr @ 168, Ward @ 164 because he's not a draw" to "we're focusing on unification."
