Dempsey himself ventured that Marciano likely hit harder, and I suspect that he was probably right.

Dempsey was the better finisher, by a country mile.

Fully agree, Marciano almost certainly had the harder punch.

According to you, weighing 185lb and being able to stop a 37 year old 4 year inactive Willard and Fulton in under 4 rounds makes you the greatest finisher of all time

I rate Marciano the better finisher. He has a higher knockout percentage against rated contenders and hall of famers. Marciano also didn't have the benefit of standing over a fallen opponent like Dempsey could

When Dempsey stepped up in competition Tunney sharkey mike gibbons he struggled to stop his opposition.

Anyone could knock out unskilled big oafs, Could Dempsey finish highly skilled master boxers like rocky did?

Marciano was one of the greatest finishers of all time no doubt about that.

His record does not support that hypothesis.
Past prime Charles, whom Walcott had kod with one left hook went the distance with him and into the 8th before being worn down in their second fight.

Walcott ,who had been stopped several times went into the 13 th before being kod, and he was 37 years old.
Willis Applegate who had only 2 fights in the previous 2 years fought toe to toe with Marciano went the 10rds distance with him.

Ted Lowry twice went the distance with him.
Keene Simmons went into the 8th before the ref called it off.
Gino Buonvino went toe to toe and was only tkod in the 10th and last round.
Lastarza went the distance in their first fight and into the 11 th in their second.
Art Henri 184lbs went 9 rds with him.
****ell who was kod by Turpin went 9 rounds and Marciano hit him with everything including the kitchen sink.

Near 40 years old Moore went into the 9th before being bludgeoned into submission.

Marciano ruined guys and the reason is because he gave them a sustained battering over many rounds, he ground them down with unrelenting attrition.

Rocky had one punch KO capability. He koed Walcott twice with one punch, Layne with one right hand, Matthews with a double hook. Splitting hairs whether he or Dempsey hit harder.

Marciano KO's Beshoure To Remain Undefeated
International News Service, August 28, 1951

There was a little more proof today that Rocky Marciano of Brockton is one of the top heavyweight boxers.
Rocky knocked off once-durable Freddie Beshore in 50 seconds of the fourth round of their scheduled ten-rounder in Boston Garden last night. And when the rugged Beshore was knocked from his feet it marked the first time in his ten-year professional career that he had been decked.
Rocky made him hit the canvas emphatically. A sustained series of rights and lefts sent Freddie backwards and he was stretched out unconscious when the count of ten was reached.
This was Marciano's 37th victory in an undefeated professional career and it was his 32nd knockout.
The fight drew 9,523 paying customers who paid a gross of $26,933 for a net of $21,632. [1]

Dempsey and Louis were ATG finishers. Sharkey said Dempsey hit harder.

I think Walcott could have gotten up in their second fight. Layne was battered into submission over several rounds ,and his chin wasn't all that anyway.

We don't have footage of all the one round ko's Dempsey achieved early in his career, it's possible they would give us a lot of food for thought?

    Marciano Kayoes Renyolds

"Rocky worked on the body and then, just after Reynolds backed out of a clinch, Marciano threw a chilling right from his waist. The sock lifted Reynolds off the canvas and dumped him flat on his back."

And we don't have all of Marcianos brutal early knockouts on film either!
