I know this has been done before but that doesn't stop a lot of threads being made Jack Dempsey vs Rocky Marciano 15 rounds gentlemen
Dempsey comes out fast but Marciano can weather the storm. When the fight got to the middle rounds Dempsey can slow down and pace himself, but that is where Marciano starts to pick it up. He'd start to pressure him more and knock Dempsey out around the 10th or 11th round.
That's just the point, he cant! As long as his skull is made of bone, Dempsey is going to break some part of it, before he can "weather the storm".
Dempseys power can't be over emphasized. Sharkey who stated Dempsey hit harder than Louis..... "If Dempsey hit you on the shoulder he breaks your shoulder. If he hits you to the body it felt as if his fist came out your back. If he hit you on the hip he dislocated your hip" Dempsey could bang.
Lol you sensationalize Dempsey like he was god. Yet Dempsey never beat a great heavyweight and struggled with bottom feeders Marciano was never badly hurt on film, yet he is going to walk right into Marciano break his jaw and flatten him in 1? oh sure just like he did when got out pointed and staggered over 11 rounds by the mediocre Bill Brennan? Or was it when fat journeyman Willie Meehan beat Dempsey up twice in his prime? Or 175lb 32 year old Tommy Gibbons easily surviving 15 with Dempsey? Or 37 year old trial horse Flynn knocking Dempsey out cold on his back? Or Jack Sharkey nearly knocking Dempsey out? Why didn't Dempsey shatter wills and grebs bone and actually prove his greatness? Oh wait his greatness is based upon needing 200 power punches to put away a 37 year old inactive champion who still took dempseys best punches and had to quit on his stoop because Dempsey couldn't get him outta there, or his 18 second knockout over the glass jawed beanpole, or breaking the jaw of some big bum named Ben wray? No mention of marcianos bone crushing power despite him paralyzing vingo, sheering laynes front teeth off at the nubs, and breaking blood vessels and chipping bones in lastarzas arms O wait Dempsey is the greatest ever, he broke he jaw of big bum Ben wray who couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag
Dempsey was not the puncher Louis was. Louis knocked out great fighters and top men of the era, Dempsey knocked out talentless big men and bottom feeders Speaking of the Sharkey fight Broadcaster Graham McNamee told radio listeners that Dempsey was "groggy" and appeared to be "going" after a Sharkey barrage in the first, the third, and again in the sixth. James Dawson of the New York Times reported that Sharkey had "badly outboxed Dempsey," leaving the former champion to "flounder around the ring, flat-footed, bewildered, and staggering like a blind man finding his way." Harvey Woodruff of the Chicago Tribune considered Dempsey "finished" in the fourth and a "gory sight."
Your post is meaningless. The Sharkey bout is an excellent example of Dempseys ATG characteristics. Losing to a top rated opponent and coming back to win. One punch KO. And no the body shots were not low. Sharkey is the only man ever to fight both men in a real fight and he stated equivocally that Dempsey hit harder than Joe Louis. Fleischer also felt Dempsey hit harder than Louis and was quicker.
Today it is common to see Marciano rated over Jack Dempsey on many all time lists, mostly because of his undefeated record. Such views are completely revisionist when compared to those who actually saw them both fight. Anything that Marciano could do Jack Dempsey could do better. Dempsey was nearly as strong a puncher with his right, stronger with his left hook, had much greater hand speed, was more maneuverable, a better boxer, had a better jab, was more cut resistant, was a faster starter and was just as tough and durable. Consider that in 1962 Ring magazine poll of 40 boxing experts Jack Dempsey was rated the # 1 Heavyweight of all time with Joe Louis 2nd, Jack Johnson 3rd and Marciano finishing a distant 7th, way behind Dempsey. If he was considered 7th in 1962 how does he propel to the top 5, when since then we have had Muhammad Ali who faced much tougher competition, the big power hitting George Foreman, Larry Holmes who made 20 title defenses, This is a key point. Nat Fleischer rated Marciano at # 10, Charley Rose rated him at # 8, McCallum's survey of old-timers had him at # 9. No major historian who saw Maricano in their lifetime thought he was a top 5 all time heavyweight and 50 years have passed since Rocky retired as champion. None rated Rocky over Dempsey.
Dempsey hit Sharkey in the *****. It's clear as night and day. Sharkey was well ahead on the scorecards. One punch kayo was nullified by Dempsey hitting Sharkey in the ***** right before it Joe Louis knocked out far far far higher quality opponents Han Dempsey ever did. Louis has much more proven one punch KO power than Dempsey against top level opponents. Louis combinations were much sharper better, he had faster hands, he was better with both hands, and once again he proved it against a far higher level of competition than Dempsey did Dempsey didn't even fight the two overwhelmingly best contenders of his era. How do we know how good he is?
Better boxer huh? You mean the way he was out slugged and out pointed over 11 rounds to Bill Brennan, lost 24 out of the 27 rounds against Tunney and Sharkey, couldn't out point a healthy 180lb Miske, twice out pointed by Willie Meehan, knocked out cold by fireman Flynn, drew the color line, and ducked the best fighters?
You complexly discredit yourself. None of the three right uppercuts to Sharkeys body were low. The ref clearly and forcefully stated this right after the bout. If you watch the fight it's very clear none of these shots were low. A blind man could see as such. Headlines a week after the bout read as follows "Film of fight shows body blows were legal". Suggest you get a high speed modem so you can watch the bout on YouTube!
