This topic has probably been talked about before, but I want to know what you all think his best performance was? Not necessarily his biggest wins because as we all know his wins can be boring and uninspiring. So please, keep the Floyd hate comments in all other topics. I think his top performances were against Diego Corrales, Ricky Hatton, and Canelo Alvarez. He destroyed Castillo in that fight and was truly a classic beat down where he showed EVERYTHING a boxer would love to posses in his repertoire. That Floyd on that night is certainly everything he claims to be today. :yep Against Hatton, he was going up against another undefeated fighter, who I thought was going to win. Aside from the horrible job from Joe Cortez, he was able to frustrate Hatton and KO'd him in superb fashion. :good And against Canelo, even if Canelo was green during that time, Floyd took a risk in facing a bigger, younger, stronger man. His skills were magnificent that night. Canelo tried but he even admitted he had no answer to Floyd's evasiveness. So, what do you think he best performance was?
Do you mean Diego Corrales? If so, then yes I think Corrales was one of Floyd's best performances. I would also say his beat down of Gatti (RIP)
Yes, I agree. Marquez was an excellent counter puncher who, on paper, could have given Floyd some problems. And yes, like everybody else, Marquez simply could not solve the riddle and was frustrated. He tried to take the lead but Floyd was simply too smart. On another note, yes Floyd did drag Marquez to a higher weight class, but Floyd really didn't use his size and strength advantage. Floyd simply out boxed him with movement and defense. Floyd could have easily knocked him out, no doubt.
No, Floyd did not drag Marquez up. JMM called out Floyd. Floyd needed a tune up fight after a long layoff. Floyd obviously wasn't in the shape he was usually in as he was unable to make weight. It wasn't for a title and JMM was given the choice to not fight or accept compensation. Basically, JMM made millions sparring with Floyd.
it's even hard to pick a good performance. he just plays very defensive because health comes first. those times he fought were when his opponents bring it to him and he needs to match them or he will get hurt and lose so he steps up his offense. so with these rationale, his best fights were when he was younger and needs to prove himself inorder to reach the top level. the problem is if that opponent is not even hof worthy.
Marquez was flawless but you have to take into account the weight farce and Marquez being new to the division. Canelo was phenomenal, Corrales was an absolute destruction, I thought him walking down Mosley for 9 rounds was impressive after nearly getting his head knocked off. Pacquiao was classic Mayweather but manny didn't turn up enough to make floyd have to turn it up.
