If Golota had hung on to defeat Michael Grant back in November 1999, would you have paid for a Lewis-Golota rematch?

Golota got blasted out in 1 round by Lewis back in October 1997.

But he was on a 6 fight winning streak, was regaining a reputation, and had performed very well against Grant - "The Heavyweight Heir Apparent" - until he inexplicably pulled a Golota in a fight he had been winning comfortably.

Had Golota beaten Grant, he would have been a viable opponent for Lennox.

    Would you have bought it?

I'd like to say no as it was an obvious mismatch but I have a feeling back then I would have, I rarely ever missed a Lewis fight back then.

I would have bought it, and although I don't think it would have been likely, a Golota win over Grant at that time would have made it a possibility.

    I'd have bought it.

If Golota had beat Grant he would have for sure gotten a title shot from someone soon. I still can't believe what he did in the Grant fight he was way up on the scorecards 86-81, 87-80, 85-83 (not sure what fight he was watching) :rofl:patsch

For sure, Golota was so unpredictable you know he could go off at any moment.

They were doing some consensus scoring BS experiment that night, too. Something they fiddles around with briefly in the state of New Jersey, where - I forget which fight it was, but someone actually lost a fight due to the consensus scoring (2 of 3 judges score a particular round) even though he won on the cards.

But anyway, with the consensus scoring, I believe he was up officially 86-81.

I really wish Golota had been better at listening to Bloodworth. Roger almost always gave him the right advice, but it went in one ear and came out the other.

    Uhhh.... lol

Maybe if there was absolutely nothing else on. I like Golota too!!! But come on, he was destroyed in 1 round :patsch:rofl

I would definitely watch a rematch, but PPV? Probably not.... 95%

That is one of the things about Golota. He always ran hot and cold. I don't think he could have ever beaten Lewis, but I still think if he showed up in form, he could have given him a good s****, and definitely a better effort than he put forth on that ill fated October night in Jersey.
