Which large heavyweight had the greatest stamina?

Many of the smaller heavyweights could punch all night but the bigger guys do tend to have lower punch out put.

Tua vs Ibeabuchi was a bit of a slugging war but neither had such out put on a regular basis.

One of the Klits set a punching record for a heavyweight, must have been Vitaly but I don't personally rate them that high in the gas tank stakes.

Who you got?

Modern day- Tyson Fury, oddly enough, is in excellent condition considering his size and workrate.

Classically, Jess Willard is my pick. Inhuman stamina to go along with brute strength and toughness...because of how late he came to the sport, he had to rely on those gifts to compensate for a lack of skill. He's still a tricky matchup for extremely lengthy fights if the other guy can't get rid of him, and would likely take others out via attrition that he should have no business winning against.

Shame he's too lazy to train that bit harder and get into better condition.

Fury does have great stamina for such a large man. I'm not his biggest fan but the stamina does impress me.

Big explosive muscles usually indicates bad stamina. You simply cant have them all.
Tyson Fury reminds me of an ancient gladiator in muscles tone. http://forums.sherdog.com/forums/f61/misconception-about-fedors-body-type-1689773/

Vitali, hands down. You never see someone that large able to consistently throw that many punches. He set the record for jabs thrown by a HW in one of his defenses. He always gets tougher the longer the fight lasts, and his volume is unrivaled.

Lennox had the earlier record on that, so LL would be a close #2.

Fury throws arm punches and hasn't had to go at a fast pace yet so not sure we can make a conclusion especially with the competition he has fought.

Yet was totally exhausted within 6 rounds against Lewis.
I think Vitali was a very well-conditioned guy, don't get me wrong.
But he also threw a ton of arm punches that didn't have a lot of mus**** on them.

An ill-prepared Lewis at 38 managed to match Vitali punch-for-punch in their fight and was more tired than Vitali sure, but Vitali was tired as hell too when the fight was stopped.

Try again... Lewis was more prepared than Vitali. He was PREPARED for a world title fight, Vitali was not. If Lewis was ill-prepared, why can't we say the same for Vitali? Taking a world title fight on a few weeks notice against the consensus #1 in the world is what you called prepared?

Vitali was in training for a fight of his own, with Cedric Boswell on the undercard. That fight, IIRC, was scheduled for 12 rounds. In terms of physical conditioning, VK was about as prepared as a fighter could be while taking a fight on short notice.

In terms of mental preparedness, VK was clearly better prepared than Lewis, based on the way he performed in the first couple of rounds. Lewis figured out range and worked his way back into the fight...but VK definitely appeared to be the more focused of the two at the opening bell.

Lol yeah, preparing for Boswell, definitely going to give the kind of mental prep you need to face someone like Lennox..... Going into a camp preparing for a world title fight, no different than going in preparing for someone like Boswell.

That being said, Vitali did display very good stamina in many of his subsequent fights.
