I think he beats Benitiz in a close decision, not a very exciting fight. The young prime Oscar had the psychical tools to beat him, but I wonder if he had the brains? When passed his best De La Hoya managed to make a good fight of it, but he did so by implementing a very good game plan, using steady pressure without getting reckless. The prime Oscar had a tendency to fight foolishly and thereby losing or making it closer than it should be, the way he just marched in and tried to decapitate Mosley in the first fight for example. Or how passive he was against Withaker, despite having everything on his side, speed, strength, youth and power. Oscar also improved his defense as he got older, and that was a key to making the Mayweather fight close. If Oscar could somehow fight the way he did in the actual fight, but with the speed, reflexes and power of his youth he should beat Mayweahter. But I doubt he would. If he fights him like he did Withaker he will lose.

Withaker is the hardest match up to figure out, I tend to go back and forth on that one. I usually end up picking Withaker, but that may just be because I like him better.

A very honest and well thought out post. I agree.. I'd probably pick Floyd to take all three of these fights via decision in mostly close bouts. Not sure this was his best weight though.

Probably 3 wins for Floyd although 147 Oscar has a decent chance to outwork and out point him. Benitez is too slow. Floyd would be a bad matchup for the smaller Whitaker.

Thanks! Yeah, I always thought he was better as a lightweight, but honestly he has been fighting at welter for so long now and been so dominant that maybe its time to rethink that position. Then again he was way more exciting when he was lighter and his punches hurt more. Who do you got between him and Whitaker at lightweight?

That's a very tough call. Its very hard to imagine Pernell losing to anyone at that weight, but it's certainly not impossible. Whitaker's south paw style and elusiveness vs one of the best defensive fighters of all time might make for a somewhat dull evening to be honest. I never really enjoyed watching sweat pea fight for as great as he was. Come to think of it there are a lot of Floyd fights that I fell asleep during too. My guess is that it comes down to the wire with one of them barely taking a close verdict in what will likely be a controversial and contested outcome. Not the best answer in the world, but I can't climb down off the fence to pick a decisive winner. Would there really be one?

Anything is a possibility here. Mayweather could win all three or lose all three. At 135 the same applies, although Oscar had yet to really hit his stride at 135.
Mayweather-DLH would be the most watchable but still not edge-of-the-seat stuff.

I don't think I could bare to watch that fight.. It would be the dullest affair in the sports history.

Whitaker would've beaten oscar at 47 if he were that good at that weight.

Probably not no, maybe we would see a fight were zero punches were landed? I used to like watching Pernell, and can't stand Mayweather, but I honestly don't know why. I can't really put together an argument as to why he was more enjoyable to watch. I guess I just liked the guy more. They were both true artists of the game at their best, but neither will get your blood boiling.

    I don't mean arguably by 1 point. I mean a clear win.
