Golovkin on Andre Ward: I Want Him, but at 164 lb

Hagler was no dummy.

Moving up to face a guy equally as great as him, but with a 15 lb and 5 inch height advantage, would have been a dumb move.

 

1. Nobody made Chad go down.

2. The Smith fight was a catchweight due to inactivity, and Smith failed to make the weight on two occasions.

3. GGG said he'd fight anyone from 154-168, and he was recently negotiating to fight Froch at 168.

 

He shouldn't have agreed to come down to 168 then. If Ward came out and said he wanted to fight Golovkin at 164, and Golovkin agreed, then Ward would just be stuck if he then later decided he couldn't make the weight.

 

Froch isn't bigger than Ward he doesn't rehydrate much and walks around near supermiddlewight.

Chavez is but he isn't that great.

Similar situation to why Floyd was fine fighting Canelo who is the same weight as Ggg on fight night, but wouldn't fight Golovkin.

Basically in Froch, Chavez, And Canelo you had bigger fighters but flawed enough that Floyd and Golovkin are willing to gave up weight.

In Ward for GGG and Ggg for Floyd you have bigger guys but are technically good, your skills may not be enough to over come the weight difference.

 

60/40 to who?

Why should GGG get 60% ?

 

Why should he?

Why on earth would GGG deserve 60%?

 

Nobody was dragged anywhere.

 

Do you really believe he can make 164? Hopefully they agree on a weight both men can comfortably make.

Truly great fighter would take the opportunity to fight Ward.

"Dragged" is a poor choice of words.

 

Marvin was a small MW, who often weighed in below 160 in the days of same day weigh ins. Also, there was no SMW division for a large portion of his career. Again, the circumstances were completely different. He was never going to move up to LHW, as well as the fact that he had huge fights at his own weight class against the rest of the Fab Four.

 

It takes two great fighters to make a great fight.

I love GGG and he's exciting, but who's he beaten?

There's no way he should be getting 20% more.

I can't see it at all.

 

I know he struggled like hell. I've read Scully's account of what happened. It's a terrible shame.

But I was talking about their initial agreement.
