What would be the general consensus here if Ward demanded a 171.5 lb CW for Kovalev?

Not acceptable IMO because I don't want any excuses. It's easier to gain weight than it is to lose it.

 

It would be acceptable if Ward hadn't fought at 172 in his last and looked pretty good. Now it looks to me he could fight at LHW without giving up anything.

 

172 1/2 would be more than fair for both sides.



Sergey has come in close to that in the past, and Ward has fought last at 172.

But I personally would rather see GGG vs Ward at 166-168.

Ofc, the money split, according to Ward fans is a deal breaker for sure.

IDK, K2 seems pretty optimistic.

I actually think Ward vs Kovalev at 172 is the easier fight for Andre Ward.

But I think he loses them both.:think

 

Though i prefer full weight fights, i have no problem with meeting in the middle at 172.5 if it's the only way the fight gets made.

 

Absolutely not acceptable.

Kovalev is the champ at 175, and if Ward wants to fight for legacy he should challenge himself and move up to the champions weight like great champions do.

I feel the same for GGG moving up to challenge Ward btw.

Catchweights are a disgrace to boxing

 

I'm annoyed with catchweight by now. They used to be done here and there. Now boxing has like a thousand weight classes and still that isn't good enough for title fights, they're constantly being contested at catch weights.

 

Ward is no A side against Kovalev. Golovkin is an A side against Ward.

Golovkin will likely have to agree on a catch-weight against Canelo or Cotto, and I bet Mayweather could bring him down to 152.

Ward is just not in a position to make demands.

 

Not acceptable because he is a LHW now, who weighted 180 at fight night against Smith.

 

I haven't heard of Ward asking Kovalev for a catch weight. I don't want to see the fight at 171.5 but at 175 period. If Ward wants the fight then 175 is what he needs to get to. He is preparing himself for that. No fear!

Depends. If you fat and out of shape losing weight is very easy. If you're already in shape like a pro boxer you're already at about as low as you can go and still be healthy.

Sergey can't go lower than 175 without looking like a skeleton. His natural weight is too high.

 

When Wards fights at 168 again then we talk catchweight.
