Golovkin has joined the ranks of Floyd, Pac, and Cotto

Some call them divas...

They use selective catch weights to gain an advantage against a more skilled/dangerous opponent; risk vs reward. Selective Catchweighting is a term I use to describe someone who uses specific weights against certain fighters being pulled from the same division to gain an advantage.

• Floyd fought Oscar and Cotto at 154 but wanted Canelo at 152.
• Pacquiao fought Oscar at 147, then Cotto at 145, and wanted Mosley at 143.
• Cotto fought Martinez at 159 and Geale at 157.
• Golovkin was willing to fight Froch and Chavez at 168 but wants Ward at 164.

You can use paydays and A-side as excuses all you want, the reality is that they're looking to negate something these opponents have. Note: They're not demanding catchweights because they're the A-side, they're demanding catchweights to gain an advantage and they're ALLOWED to because they're the A-side. I'm not hating on any of these guys, it is what it is. But don't try to make excuses or dress it up as something different because you favor one guy over the other.

 

Don't forget Pac wanted Mayweather under 47, wanted Martinez at 47 with a rehydration clause of 150

Floyd's resume isn't much better LOL And in a way, GGGs is more impressive with his historical KO %. If GGG beats cotto, canelo and then ward, he will rank almost as high as Floyd, but I don't rank Floyd that high so its not saying that much

 

ggg doesnt need any big fights....think of all the money he is making in recycleables

The Shane that beat marg was shot. He looked horrible in that fight, I remember watching it thinking, yea, he's washed up. His punches weren't crisp, speed diminished and just looked awkward. But a shot Mosley beats a bum like Marg any day of the week, without marg's handwraps, he never won another fight anyway. I knew Floyd would have an easy time with him, Mosley was just behind Oscar in terms of sustaining their primes, they both went downhill almost the same speed and time. I wasn't that surprised Mosley caught him because floyd wasn't used to fast fighters like shane, even though he was noticeably slower than his prime.
