Dmitry Pirog would have defeated Golovkin at (160)

    Yup, you heard it from me. The man was the prime candidate at 160 to defeat Golovkin and hand him his first LOSS. Pirog even vacated a belt in order to have a shot at fighting Golovkin, this takes large testicles to do. Pirog had a heavier nutsack than Quillin, Sturm, Martinez, Lee and Lemieux, Pirog feared no man. Unfortunately Golovkin lucked out, as Pirog started to have back problems, so he retired. Imagine Pirog landing a flush shot at Golovkins chin and dropping him :deal

    At one point, I think this would have been the most entertaining fight at 160. First thing's first though - Pirog wouldn't ko Golovkin, whose chin is too solid and who wouldn't be reckless defensively against a guy with good power anyway.

    Two technically sound fighters who could box and punch? Yeah, this would have been a good fight. I think GGG is more adept at cutting off the ring and going to the body and I'd favour him to have taken the victory. I don't think Pirog could box him for 12 rounds and in close exchanges, I'd favour Golovkin over anyone at 160.

    It's a shame Pirog had the back problems though because he seemed to want the fight and it would have been the biggest test for GGG to date.

    Maybe they would have collected two belts each, and rule the 160 division with their iron fists, a Cold War in the 160 division :deal

    No question. For a minute, this was the fight I was most interested in seeing in any weight class. That window closed quickly but Pirog would have given GGG an interesting look.

    He faced Murray in 2013, he beat Paul Williams in 2010, so his prime lasted for 3 years :huh

    He was prime for a few years before the Williams match against Bunema and Cintron who he beat overwhelmingly but was robbed on the cards, you could even make an argument his prime started way back in 2002 when he beat Richard Williamsx2 or Adrian Stone, Sergio just had the misfortune to hit it big just as he was getting old.
