From what I read and have seen Walcott ran to avoid Louis as the fight progressed. The champion aggressively trying to engage the challenger was giving the benefit of the doubt in the rounds where Walcott was running for his life. Fights like this have occurred all through boxing history. Not saying either man deserved to win or lose. Just saying fights like this occurr and judges sometimes favor the champion trying to engage with a retreating challenger.
I like you Mcvey, and all I ask is that you apply the same standards you use for others. You have admitted you count the greb decisions as victories if he got the majority in the newspapers. You credit him with those fights. Yet, you've never seen the fight, in fact you've seen exponentially less of that fight than the one we are discussing. With the later, at least we can see bits and pieces of the fight. Most of which is showing Walcott getting the better of the action. So my question is, if you give other fighters victories for the same thing... why not Walcott for getting double the votes as Louis, the ref voted for Walcott and the fans clearly thought he won. All this under the old scoring system. With the current one, it becomes even more lopsided in the favor of Walcott. So the question is, why dont' you do the same for this fight that you do for other fights?
I don't really have an opinion on them ,If I wanted to hold one, I would ask Klompton for more information on them.
My bad, I thought you were on record as saying Greb was one of the best ever. A top p4p guy in history. If you don't hold that view, my bad, but if you do, then you have to count those as victories in order for him to be that high on your list right?
A good ****ogy. Young however did the ultimate of running......trying to leave the ring to avoid Ali's attack. I believe Louis win was more controversial than the Ali win.
Watch the fights! The idea is boxing history is full of challengers fighting too defensively and in the process lose the bout. Examples of these type bouts are Louis Wacott and Ali Young.
The Louis vs Walcott fight is incomplete for viewing hard to make a definitive statement on who actually won the fight. Ringside did have a few scoring it for Louis so I believe the outcome was debatable. As many always state on here and it is viewable Louis's body language was very poor after the fight ended. So that may give some indication that he believed he lost, or was unhappy with his own performance. He always denied that he felt he had lost for whatever it's worth. As for the Ali vs Young bout, I have watched it multiple times and have always scored it for Jimmy. Ali was out of shape, looked terrible trying to lead and never landed a significant punch the whole fight. In short he was outboxed. However, Young's style leaves much to be desired and fighting the biggest attraction in all of sports at the time is a perfect mix to have the win taken away from you.
Prime Louis destroys Walcott and Charles. He fought Walcott when he was past-it, and Charles when he was way past-it. Louis was so damn good that even when he was nearly shot he still could beat most top 10 guys.
I am on record as saying Greb is and ATG and a top p4p guy.He doesn't need a definitive decision on those NWS to get that accolade from me. His undisputed wins are enough .
