I just noticed Fat Dan says the fight will be on HBO PPV. Really? These guys are not popular enought to sell PPV. atsch
I definitely agree that this fight probably doesn't do strong numbers. There's a few reasons why-Golovkin has never been on ppv, Lemieux isn't a well known opponent, etc. What I think will hurt ppv sales a lot is that this is one of 3 straight months of ppvs and most people can only drop so much additional money on ppv fights. Mayweathers will sell a ton of ppvs regardless of who his opponent is and Cotto-Alvarez is 2 proven stars in a true ppv quality match up. With 3 ppvs in about an 8 week stretch someone's going to take a hit and Golovkin-Lemeiux seems the one most likely.
Hm, I would think Mayweather would take the hit. 1.) Media is slaughtering Berto 2.) Mayweather just disappointed fans with FOTC Rather, ESPN is already blowing Golovkin/Lemieux up as a big fight that'll be like Halger/Hearns while ESPN (and other media outlets) are tearing Mayweather apart of his next opponent. First Take yesterday was calling it a complete joke, awful, and etc...while in the same breath promoting GGG's name by including him in the conversation as "the very definition of a KO artist". I don't think Golovkin/Lemieux will do above 500,000 buys, but I don't think it'll be as bad as people think. I think people will be surprised by the amount of exposure it'll get in mainstream media. So, I think Mayweather will take the hit.
I'm not sure we'll ever know the answers to which takes a bigger hit, but in terms of final numbers, I definitely would expect Floyd-Whoever and Canelo-Cotto to do significantly better than Lemieux-Golovkin. But personally, I hope all 3 PPVs tank, and that everyone involved loses precious amounts of money across the board. If they all do poorly, maybe the powers-that-be in the world of boxing will stop bending the fans over with this PPV nonsense. :smoke
Agreed, Lemieux is far too raw a novice to cope. Gets too square on, throws bad lead right cross leaving himself open to counters. Won't go six rounds.

That is a very big if Lemieux can land, Lemieux is a going forward fighter and GGG is skilled enough to figure him out and create the fight where GGG punishes him. I feel sorry for Lemieux and hopefully he doesn't take this loss as bad and comes back stronger
Lemieux has never lost before the 8 th rd; if GGG stops him inside 3 ( possible) , even the naysayers will have to concede he's a great fighter.
