The obvious answer to that for me is Duran was such a formidable fighter at 135 he made his opposition look less than stellar. And with all due respect to the old timers, I haven't seen anything from them that I don't believe Roberto could have fairly comfortably dealt with.
You would need to take a bottle to pi ss in, cos you wouldn't want to leave your seat to go to the k****y once those 2 got going for sure. Let me put it this way. I am unbendable on Duran being the GOAT at 135, and I honestly believe Ike deserves to be no lower than 3, but I honestly couldn't say you were wrong for having Leonard and Gans above him.:good

I was at that near fatal fight between a fading Beau Jack and Ike Williams in Philly in 1948.I have posted this event before but it bears repeating.Beau Jack was past his peak from too, too many fights starting his career Why in his first 2 years of his career Beau Jack's brave manager matched Beau in 38 fights and this took a lot out of Beau. Nevertheless he still was a muscular dynamo ,all action that thrilled all of us selling out the old MSG 7 times in one year. Amazing...That night in Philly Ike Williams a tall ripping two handed puncher who was at his best just a shade below the welterweight Ray Robinson as a great fighter finally opened up on Beau Jack in the 6th rounds with every hard punch in his ****nal that trapped Beau in a corner with the semi conscious Jack's hands behind him dangling in the ropes, and unable and unwilling to fall Beau Jack took tremendous punches from Willians and we in the audience shouted for the referee to stop the fight. In fact Ike pleaded for the referee to stop the slaughter, but he refused to until soon later, the referee stopped that near fatal fight.Almost a repeat of the Emile Griffith ko of Benny Paret years later at MSG...Ike Williams [without the handcuffs on was the best lightweight I ever saw...Even Duran did not beat such lightweights as formidable as Beau Jack, Bob Montgomery, Sammy angott, Freddie Dawson, Tippy Larkin etc. As a lightweight only Ike Williams was the best I have seen...
