You are assuming he is going to potshot because he did potshot against the bigger, heavier, and more importantly YOUNGER than Charles, Walcott, Moore, and Louis,,, Ruiz. Let us be honest here. Jones had more skill and athleticism in his left foot than Marciano ever read about, even if he spent his entire life reading in the New York library sports section. After one minute these old guys ( and bless them they were old and past it at the time Marciano got them ) or C level fighters would be terrified to even think about letting their hands go. They would be mesmerised by Jones footwork, never mind him trebling, or quadrupling up on his left hook, or blinding right hand lead, then he is gone again before they could even blink. And irony of ironies, in most fights he wouldn't even be outweighed. Come to think of it, I'll take the 175 version that would re hydrate to the mid, to high 180's to destroy everyone Marciano destroyed, and in quicker time. Everything you said about Charles is correct, but all done at the speed of a slow motion replay of prime L / H Jones, by the time he faced Marciano.
You are sensationalizing. The 1954 Charles still had fast hands, and his hands were no slower then montell griffin who won 5 of the first 8 rounds in the jones fight. No one can match jones in handspeed. It doesn't matter, there are other ways to beat him. Charles had equal speed to montell griffin, except he was even smarter, hit harder, better offense, better skills, and more durable.
Agreed he didn't have the legs to keep away from him ,or the power to make him cautious. 12 rounds would seem like 20. Over 15rds Marciano would get to him and fold him imo.
Yes his hands, and more importantly his feet, were slower than Griffin's, by the time he was KO'd by Marciano, plus the fact he ( Griffin ) was dropped by Jones in the 7th, and 9th. Then destroyed in one in the rematch when Jones had a point to prove. The Marciano fights version of Charles would get similar treatment. Furthermore Ezzard was stopped by guys who didn't hit anywhere near as fast or hard as Jones did, so your durability point is somewhat moot.
Disagree, Ruiz was tailor made for Jones' HW excursion. His resume doesn't exactly shout out: "What a bad-*** heavyweight."
OK here's ol Jowcol again. IMO Charles may have been the greatest LH EVER! 1946 Charles against a 1946 Roy Jones. Modern day Jones vs. Modern day Charles. You, like so many others, miss the point.
The 1954 version of Charles had faster hands than griffin you're wrong, his hands were still quite fast. Where are you getting this ridiculous opinion that Charles lost so much speed from 1949 to 1954? There was some drop yes, but not as much as you say https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=z2PutDflPYo Hands look blazing fast too me, timing impeccable. Graceful movement too Trust me, a 1948 Charles was so much better than Roy jones that even a past his prime 1954 Charles was still better
