Short careers - yet still world champions

Wonder if Lomenchenko holds the record for winning a world title with fewest number of fights.

 

I think he tied it. I remember him needing to beat Salido to hold that distinction.

 

On the other hand are world champions with the LONGEST careers in terms of numbers of fights.

Former Light-Heayweight champion Maxie Rosenbloom has a record of 274 bouts! 207 wins, 39 losses and 26 draws

Can any former champ or professional fighter even beat that?

 

Greb had more. So did Jack Britton.

Harry Grebb had 119 bouts

Jack Britton had 157 bouts

 

You need to study a bit of boxing history!

 

According to BoxRec thats how many professional fights they both had. Im not including amateur bouts or exhibitions.

 

Greb had over 300 recorded fights. Boxrec is not reliable in regards to newspaper decision fights.

 

Reggie Strickland - 66 wins, 276 losses, 17 draws = 359 fights.

I bet no one fought more "undefeated" opponents than Strickland did. (MORE THAN 90.) And that's not counting guys who were making their pro debuts or had a draw and no losses. Just the guys who had won fights before and were undefeated.

90+ undefeated opponents. That's a tough slog.

 

James J Corbett, 20 fights.

 

After a quick count I reckon Peter Buckley fought 131 fights against an unbeaten opponent with pro experience.

Ingemar Johannson had 24 fights.

 

I've met David a couple of times at amateur shows where he was coaching some guys. Really nice, very humble, very friendly. Seems happy to talk boxing with anyone. Great guy in my brief experience with him.

 

The man who took the title off Toweel, Jimmy Carruthers, won it in his 15th pro bout, defended it three times then retired undefeated. Like most though he had an ill-fated comeback and lost four of six bouts to end his career 21-4.
