I think how this goes would depend on how Kalule fights.

I have a feeling i rate Carter at his best higher than quite a few do...a very good varied offensive fighter with generally tidy upperbody defensive work too.Reminds me quite a bit of Valdez when i watch his best few fights....but he's not at all versatile.Weaker slow'ish legs and not much imagination in his footwork makes him vulnerable to movement and someone that can control the space and pace of exchanges with better feet.

    He's the constant here.

You also have to question his mentality with how quickly he went downhill and seemed to fall out of love with the sport after the Rodriguez and Tiger ten rounder losses. But that's another point

Kalule has a more varied set of technical tools at his disposal...for most of his late 70s prime-unless faced with a stick and mover- he's a matador that looks to control everything with intricate ringcentre Napoles-like footwork from which he can slip and counter. But he can also do the cultured insistent pressure fighter thing and is very good at always being in position to land punches on a mobile opponent. he fell into this more and more post-Leonard as his legs started to go.

I highly expect if we are talking prime vs prime he would face Carter in matador style and he has the clear stylistic technical edge on the the slow footed, straight line Carter here.Think the way Giardello maneuvered him, only someone with quite a bit better upper body slips and reactions than that aging version of Joey.

However it's not that simple of course, as Kalule's 2 main weaknesses as fighter even things up.

    1. poor punching power.Probably coming partly from him being a converted southpaw...his straight left was very accurate and rarely telegraphed but had nothing behind it.

    2. Average chin.He had plenty of will and with his upperbody slipping\blocking skill was extremely difficult to tag with more than one punch in a row...even Leonard barely managed it(when he did he dropped him and the fight was stopped). But if you were a solid hitter and could land good single shots, he could be rocked and forced to focus on avoiding followups.

So i see a competitive fight that Kalule will be controlling the pace of and likely outboxing\countering\landing Carter for good stretches. But where Kalule isn't ever safe and not safety-first\enough of a perimeter mover to just coast to a decision while a step ahead the whole way.Carter had good handspeed and he'll be able to get to Kalule enough to put him on the defensive at times and make rounds tough to score by hurting him\ having bigger moments among being outboxed, or get a knockdown here or there.

    Two likely outcomes:

Kalule staying a half-step ahead and winning a competitive but clear decision where he has some decidelyrocky moments, but Carter's feet let him down and he can't quite pin him down enough.

Carter takes greater advantage when he does land and is able to slow Kalule enough to grind out a last third stoppage.

Fifteen rounds definitely makes things very competitive. If it was a ten round non-title bout i'd put some money on Kalule.

The later Kalule that didn't have the same legs many have mostly only seen, circa Moore, McCallum and on would just get brute forced and eventually worn down and stopped. It'd be a very entertaining fight, he'd land plenty and make Carter miss loads, but eventually get caught with a couple of heavy combinations forcing the ref to stop things while he's reeling around. This Kalule was still a fine fighter, but is much more suited to taking on lighter hitting cuties and boxer types.
