Nothing in it for power I reckon.

Dempsey was the better puncher overall though for me.

You love to quote the Ring's ATG punchers list, especially when referring to Marciano's opponents Walcott and Moore.

So here is something for you to ponder on.
    The Ring's 100 All Time Punchers .2003.

    Dempsey no7
    Marciano no14
    Walcott no66
    Johannson no99

Here's the 1997 ratings from the Ring.

    Dempsey no 6.
    Marciano no7.
    Moore no.8

    The defence rests!:happy

Dempsey was a better fighter and dropped durable guys like Tunney, Machen was a blitz but Patterson was dropped by everyone. I think Dempsey's chin allowed him to land his better punches and although Ingo was a big puncher IMO he lacked many other things that JD had so JD

why are we getting these posts about johansson's power? he couldn't keep patterson down in their first fight....the fight ended with flloyd on his feet; the referee stopped it and ffloyd got off the canvas to stop ingo in the second one. he didn't last a full round in each of his two fights with liston.

the myth of ingo's power rests on that one epic thunderbolt against ffloyd in the third round of their first fight. it was a perfect shot, fast and hard and a surprise....to the audience as much as to floyd. i saw that fight on close circuit tv in a movie theatre and we were stunned and many of us went a little coo coo. i found myself yelling.."He's another max baer! he's another max baer."

I'm only 23 so I've never experienced it, but I think it would be a great time watching a big fight with my friends in a movie theater.

2piece---it was the most exciting way to watch a fight, so much like having a front row seat in person. of course not as good as the real thing, but better than sitting at an in person one in a far back seat. we all yelled advice...."hold on! throw that damned left hook!" "hey ref..that punch was low!" etc.

great fun, during an era of great fights.

Johansen had so little apart from his right hand, that you can prety much favour it over anybodys.

There was also Eddie Machen. He was the type of fighter than no one walked through, not even Liston or Frazier, yet Ingo knocked him smack cold in a round. That's pretty impressive.

He caught him cold imo and would never countenance a rematch. Count how many punches Ingo lands before the stupid referee calls it off.

That first punch completely scrambled Machen, it was only prolonged because Ingo was an awful finisher. Can't blame him for preferring a title challenge against Patterson ahead of a rematch against a guy he just KO'd in one round.

Lot of horse**** about Ingo's power being overrated. Go watch him from his amateur bouts all the way through the pros and tell me he didnt have ridiculous power. The fact that he made it so far based on having nothing but a right hand is a testament to how hard he hit.

I think the Machen KO was brutal .. that ref did a terrible job .. Eddie got hit far more than necessary .. he was lucky he was not killed that night ..
