Nothing slow or robotic about peak Vitali. He threw rapid fire heavy bombs that downed people who had good records and even 0's intact, he could also fight inside. Comeback Vitali was a slower moving arm puncher but still bossed every fight. Peak Vitali was not the Lewis fight, dic ks, and okay he had one bad night against Byrd but was still ahead on every card. The man did the right thing to retire, but he's no quitter. He fought through a similar injury vs Chisora many years later as an old man.
Firstly he was never in a fight with anyone like a prime Tyson also vitali at anytime during his career was slow compared to prime Tyson .
O's intact....lol....like Ed Mahone's "O ".......his record is littered with the graveyard of washed up old Americans who had to to go on the German club circuit to get a mediocre pay check because in the US they could not even land fights on ESPN anymore.... One more time , facts are a stubborn thing, he was stopped TWICE in his prime by top ten guys.....one was ready to retire and the other one was a light punching woodpecker ....Kirk Johnson would not have made it out of the first round against Tyson and Sanders was waxed by a Tyson sparring partner in one round, imagine what Tyson would do.... VK has longevity, is tough and has a remarkable comeback career but the only elite he ever met, and that elite was not blowing on all cylinders anymore, he was stopped by TKO6, no revisionist posting will ever change that.
Tyson is tailor made for VK. Tyson is going to be overy aggressive, per usual, come in with his crouchy style and try and land anything with swinging overhands and combos, but he's going to be quickly discouraged and tagged. The holding and hitting that Lewis did successively is not going to work here, although as said VK was past peak in that fight, was carrying a shoulder and knee injury.
Now I have heard it all, for TKO6 he was past peak and injured....that alone gives nuthugging another dimension....yeah, getting his face carved up for a Thanksgiving feast was a injury... TKO6 will never go away, ever for the prime VK for his first try at a real belt... TKO6 is the main thing he will remembered for.....same as Pac for his sparring partner effort 118-110 against Mayweather, how do you like them apples..
Tyson being KO'd clean age 24 by a feather duster throwing journeyman in Japan will not go away either. See, pick your fights and you can make any fighter look bad.
The difference is Tyson was the undisputed, undefeated Heavyweight Champion of the world holding every belt imaginable..called by friend or foe the "Baddest Man on the Planet"....while VK in his first stepping out of the German Club circuit got TKO6'ed...the end.
He lost so badly Lewis chickened out of $50m for the rematch and retired like a pu ssy the day before he was due to stripped. This is going to turn into a tko6 thread I see, gimps like you make me laugh. Who is WBC champion emeritus? Lewis or Vitali? A tribute the man in question has been given twice by the wbc. Lewis was both a cheat and a coward, have no respect for that dude.
Its classic puncher vs chin matchup. Tyson blows his wad early but can't finish and once he realizes he can't stop the iron chinned fighter he gets discouraged and gets destroyed in the 2nd half of the fight.
Tyson would be inside and attacking the body way to fast for vitali it would be a video nasty for those that think bigger is better
I do think Vitali is one of those few to give Tyson problems. Vitali did not commit himself to full-blooded power shots like most heavies do. He arm punched a lot, keeping his weight either fairly evenly balanced or sometimes he even punched off the back foot. Heck, even his uppercuts were arm punches mostly. He did not commit since obviously he did not like to get countered. It was said above that Vitali did not use his height well; I strongly disagree. Again, he kept well away by arm punching and by standing tall. He also backpedalled and if necesary even turned his back and ran if things got too hot. He was not an easy guy to hit, especially if the opposing fighter was a lot shorter. Vitali controlled range very well. He also had a very good chin so all in all he is not a guy anyone is going to bomb out quickly. On the face of it, he is exactly the kind of guy to make Tyson look bad or even beat. On the negative side, I don't think his skin is that durable. I'm not sure he is quick and sharp enough to catch Tyson with any degree of consistency. And despite his obvious toughness, he hated getting hit. It's one of the more intriguing fantasy fights since in my mind Vitali does possess qualities that going along with conventional thinking gave Tyson problems.
I don't think many remember how destructive Tyson was in his prime. His speed and reflexes were so good he out jabbed most all of his much larger competition. He is getting Vitali out of there.
