    Damn dude, you showed me up. I should have read the book but I can't find any torrents online. That goes to show though that you were wrong about the 1939 amateur video.

    That's probably what made him so tough along with natural toughness.

    Ok, so define 'modern.' Is it training done over the last 10 years, last 20 or what? What sort of modern methods are you referring to specifically?
    Let's start with that and take it from there.

    No, that was a film of Jake LaMotta winning the 1941 diamond belt against Jim Miller. Just because the person who posted it got the date wrong doesnt mean it wasnt. I have three different films of that fight, all from different angles and one has audio commentary from 1941 telling exactly who it is.

    Within the last 10-20 years, if that.

    Boxers don't class "pad work" as modern, although it got introduced heavily in the 70's. Now, anyone whole tells me that ANYTHING isn't old after FOUR DECADES is all wrong.

    :!::?

    So, 2005 is old!

    Probably not a bad point when it is thought about. Still, it certainly changes the old argument about Superheavyweights not exist in the olden times. What about the skilled old time skilled superheavyweights like Lewis and Bowe!

    Can't argue with that. Hagler was my favourite fighter when I was growing up; he was a really classy operator all round.

    You didn't specify before that it was 1941. Congratulations on being right about his amateur background. I need to read the book.

    This clip shows some footage of a young Wilfred Benitez doing padwork at his dad's little Puerto Rico gym circa 1977 (about :30 in).

    Chewing on steak was an Old Man Moore way of losing weight not because they thought steak would damage them !

    That is a very interesting clip.

    It backs up most of what i have argued on this site over the years, or at least i think it does.

    ONe interesting part which needs exploring and i didnt really understand is the evolution point, ie size of body proportions in relation to individual sports. I am not sure why this became important in sports after a certain time frame. I need to think more about that.

    Incidentally, what is the perfect body type for a boxer? I presume itis short legs, long body/arms?
