Mayweather-Hatton. Should we give Hatton more credit?

I think Hattons performance against Floyd is very under rated! True pressure boxing

 

Did pretty well for 6 rounds then gassed and it was target practice. He did better in those rounds than many others do but he still was dismantled by Floyd while fighting Hattons' fight.

 

I think Hatton really brought out the best of Floyd in that fight! That's why he knocked him out....

 

Hatton did a good job in bringing the best out of Mayweather and making him work harder than usual, but he wasn't winning rounds. Cortez was quick to break up the clinches, but when he let them fight, Mayweather got the better of it with the free hand. He did a great job of using his right to dig uppercuts to Hatton's body.

 

He won a couple of rounds, at best. HBO was hyping his performance way too much.

 

Nah. That night Hatton was, as always, mediocre for an "elite" fighter.

He simply wasn't that good. Not NEARLY as good as people wanted him to be.

Just not enough talent. Shockingly low boxing IQ.

 

Why post with an agenda of an 8 year old fight? Hatton did very well, Mayweather was clearly uncomfortable for the first period of that fight. Once he adjusted, Hatton couldn't walk him down and got pieced up, but he put on a great fight and brought the best out of Mayweather because Mayweather's best is what it took to beat Hatton.

Floyd would beat Hatton with 0 training and the flu. I'm not even exaggerating. Hatton is LEVELS below Floyd in EVERYTHING.

 

He called himself Ricky Fatton during the 2nd 24/7 and all he talked about was getting drunk. He wanted that payday so he could retire in a pub

Mayweather's inside game is very under-rated so even though Cortez was truly abysmal WUHWUHWUH BREAK I SAID BREAK it wouldn't have made a significant difference as to how the fight went. Hatton did very very well for half the fight then as the say, class told over time. Not a good style for Mayweather to look good against, styles make fights, Mayweather fought a Hatton in brilliant shape and defeated him, his competition hadn't been amazing but he did have some admirable victories.

 

Cortez ruined what could have been a great first 6 rounds.

 

Hatton didn't learn from this fight to stop leaping in with that left hook. He may have fell in love with it after the Maussa knockout.

Against Mayweather, well at least he went for the KO, as much of a Hail Mary shot as it was, rather than to just be happy to last the distance and lose a decision.

But he tried the same leaping left hook against Lazcano and got hurt. He tried it against Malignaggi and got caught, but fortunately for Hatton, Paulie lacks power.

After talking about Manny doing the "same old move" of throwing the right hook and ducking under, Hatton AGAIN tried to throw a leaping left hook. Manny did the "same old move" and dropped Ricky.

 

It was sort of like Mayweather's fight with Jesus Chavez, only Chavez landed more clean shots (and also ate more) than Hatton.

They both made Floyd work harder than usual and had pockets of success, but were eating most of the clean blows rather than landing them. Harold Lederman has a tendency to favor the guy coming forward even when he's taking the majority of the clean punches rather than landing them.

Remember he also had DLH-Trinidad and Toney-Jirov even, which is pretty generous to Tito and Jirov.

It didn't even make a difference because Mayweather got the better of it on the inside and fighting in and out of the clinches anyway.

They would get tangled up, Mayweather's left arm would get tangled up with Ricky's arm. With his free left hand, Hatton did pretty much nothing. With his free right hand, Mayweather dug in right uppercuts to Hatton's body throughout the fight. He beat Hatton in all areas of boxing.

But I always respected Hatton. Frank ****** was happy to have Hatton fight overmatched opposition, but Hatton insisted on stepping up the opposition and facing Tszyu. Of course some people overrated Hatton, but others have underrated him as a result of doing the oh-so-shameful thing of losing to those scrubs Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. There were people saying nonsense like "Khan would kick prime Hatton's ass, Hatton couldn't handle speed". Gee, you think it just the speed, and not the fact that he was, you know, facing Manny ****ing Pacquiao and Floyd ****ing Mayweather?

 

Hatton was one of the best fighters of the world in 2007.

 

In spots Hatton was very very good , but overall his lack of boxing cost him.

The jab is what beats Floyd not hooks.
