Funny how often this is used in boxing now. Seems to me it originated when Kellerman put it in those terms during the Cotto Martinez face off show, is that right? Amazing how its caught on from there.
Yeah agreed... It's become 'more of a thing' recently. Maybe something to do with the Mayweather PAC 5 year long negotiations
It's ALWAYS been used in boxing. Before Golovkin, people called the A side "divas" and "cowards" for requesting catch weights. Now those same people support it since Golovkin is doing it. I don't have a problem with it but I think there needs to be a clear cut criteria for determining who's A side. It's a little grey in some cases.
I'm talking about the actual expressions, you dummy, not the concept. OF COURSE people understood that one fighter brought more to the table than the other before the Cotto Martinez face off.
Sir! Sir! Calm down! [emoji38] When you use words like "originated", of course it'll look like you're saying that's where it started. But if you meant when it became widely used among the fans, then yea, it became a little more mainstream around 2013. Might want to re-read before calling someone a dummy. Good day, sir!
I found it funny Saturday night when they interviewed Jacobs post fight and they mentioned Quillen.. I don't remember exactly what he said, but at the end he was like "and since I'm the champ, I'm the A side" lol.. I don't think there is an A side in that match up.. Neither of them draw for ****!!
It existed long before Kellerman was around. First two fights I remember it being discussed were Holmes-****ey and Leonard-Hagler.
Yes, it has become trendy recently. Ut happens with boxing fans. Remember when Manny Stewart mentioned Floyds check hook that stopped Ricky? After that people used the term "check hook" constantly, having not known what it was 2 weeks previously.
By the way, I just did a google search for a side b side (those are the terms I put in) and at the bottom it says "related searches" and the first thing on the list is "A side B side boxing" !!! WTF!!! Why have people been googling A side b side boxing ??? Maybe there's a swarm of idiots who didn't even understand what the terms meant? How do you explain this?? Another moron! OF COURSE it existed before Kellerman! A side b side is a metaphor that's existed in English for a long time, and it figures that AT SOME POINTS in boxing history someone would have applied the metaphor to matchups, as it fits in that context, the point is that in recent times, in the small, insular boxing community, this metaphor has been used SPECIFICALLY in reference to matchups MUCH MORE than it is used in English generally, you follow? In other words, you don't hear the a side b side metaphor used that frequently in the English language, but you hear it allll the time in boxing, 2x a week on this forum. So there's a reason why the boxing community has latched onto it so hard recently, and, as far as I can tell, it started when Kellerman (or maybe it was Cotto, but I'm pretty sure it was Kellerman) used it in the Cotto Martinez face off. Yeah, that's true, that's another one. After that you started hearing it in boxing and MMA, as well.
"A side / B side" has been used for years in boxing. I think it caught on more after the Floyd/Pac failed negotiations in December 2009 because it was a conversation piece in the negotiations and a point of argument for fans of both fighters to whine back and forth with.
It was used well before Kellerman. If you have been watching Boxing for 30 years like I have you would know that kiddo.
Are you talking about the concept that one fighter is bringing more to the table than the other, or are you saying those actual expressions have been used since then? Because I don't remember those expressions ever coming up before that face off.
You've been watching boxing for 30 years yet you spout absolute drivel about glass jaws all the time and generally act like a teenager. Bloody hell if you really are over 30, I'm embarrassed for you.
