Let’s use the original weight classes for a historical backdrop.

When was the last time the #1 rated heavyweight champion, #1 light heavyweight champion, and #1 middleweight champion hit harder then they do today?

Use fightenws.com or boxrec.com rankings for the purpose of modern fighters as there are too many belts out there today.

    Modern champions are

    Heavy Wlad
    Light heavy Kovalev
    Middle Golovkin

At the same time or are you asking about each category? If the former, then maybe never. Closest would probably be Foreman, past-prime Bob Foster, and Monzon around 73-74.

No. The closest is probably the '70's but 1926 is close (Dempsey, Berlenbach, Walker).

1990 missed it by a few months; Tyson, Moorer, Jackson.

Neither Golovkin nor Kovalev are #1 though. You've selected the linear champ and then the #1 contender for the other two divisions.

Marciano, Moore and Robinson would be almost close enough to debate.

I guess they are the three best guys in the division.

Yeah, they're clearly the top dogs (although Adonis can plausibly deny it).

I anticipated this, which is why I said use Box Rec and Fight news to circumvent the politics of boxing. 95%+ of the fans know who #1 man is is today.

Everyone knows Roy Jones was the best light heavy of this time, but he was never lineal at middle or light heavy.

Use the terms in this thread.

    Marciano left in 1956,

so the three of them were really rarely together as the champs of these three divisions.

Only late 1955 and early 1956,

but these three were all-time punchers.

It also depends what you mean by "hit harder." Wlad, Kovalev, and Golovkin seem to be far, far more heavy-handed than the 50s predecessors that have been named. All their punches have visible impact, including their jabs. Some of the older fighters may have been able to generate more one-punch knockout power than them in their absolute best punches, but I'm not even 100% sure about that.
