Which overseas fighter turned in the most memorable performance on British soil?

The one that sticks out in my head most in recent times would be Bud Crawford. A mixture of him being somewhat of an unknown quantity before the fight as well as it looking like he didn't even get out of second gear on the night.

An excellent fighter.

That may have been the best of the lot. I thought Curry had a decent chance of beating Hagler around this time.

 

Yes Curry was looking like the perfect fighter at the time and Jones had done so well in the two McCrory fights.
I'm just watching another one I remembered from back in the day, Paul Hodkinson/Goyo Vargas. Vargas looked great in that fight. I was really surprised he didn't rein for longer.

 

He was unlucky, Kelley was in top form going into the Vargas fight, then Kelley himself bumped into prime Alejandro Gonzales. And sadly, Gonzales never fought like that again...

All four fighters seemed to ruin each other.

 

Durrell when he schooled froch

 

It was a weird sequence where each winner in turn looked like a future superstar, and then the champion left standing at the end of it got unseated by a former champ considered on the slide, and then starched by a guy he had previously blown away in a couple of rounds.

Jose Luis Lopez - Eamonn Loughran sticks in my mind. Loughran seemed destined for one of those lengthy 90s style anonymous WBO reigns, until Lopez did a Breidis Prescott on him.

 

Two stand out for me watching at the time.

Minter v Hagler cut Minter to pieces in a must win fight for Hagler in a hostile atmosphere.

Cowdell v Nelson a brutal uppercut,Cowdell was seriously underrated and had given Salvador Sanchez a good test over 15 rounds even (somehow) winning on one card.Nelson was a beast and served notice to many that night.

 

Malinga in his two fights with Benn was impressive. Maybe Benn was just made for him though.

 

He gave Eubank all he could handle too. Also he beat Reid. It was only Woodhall who beat him comfortably in the UK.

 

Kovalev when he ruined cleverly. A sign of things to come
